Prashant Khanna’s new role brings together sports rights, digital innovation, partnerships and the Cricinfo business at JioStar.

JioStar has expanded Prashant Khanna’s role, naming him Head Sports: Rights, Innovation and Cricinfo Business.

Khanna shared the update on LinkedIn, marking a new chapter after nearly nine years across Star, Disney Star and now JioStar. In his new mandate, he will work across sports rights and innovation, while also taking charge of the Cricinfo business.

The appointment gives Khanna a broader business-facing role at a time when sports broadcasting is being shaped by live production, digital delivery, rights strategy and deeper partnerships with leagues and governing bodies.

Khanna said his journey so far has included work across production, technology and innovation, where he helped build capabilities behind major sporting moments. He added that the new role will allow him to bring together rights, partnerships, innovation and digital to support the next phase of growth for JioStar Sports.

He also noted that the sports industry is changing quickly, creating more opportunities for broadcasters, rights holders and technology teams to work together. In his new role, Khanna said he looks forward to collaborating with teams, partners, leagues and governing bodies to build stronger partnerships and create long-term value across the sports ecosystem.

Before this elevation, Khanna was Head Sports and Live Experience Production Technology and Services. He has been with JioStar since November 2024. Prior to that, he worked with the ICC as Production Contract Manager.

The move places Khanna at the centre of JioStar’s sports growth strategy, with a portfolio that connects content rights, product thinking, sports innovation and the Cricinfo business under one leadership role.
