Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is already generating major interest at the box office, with advance ticket sales reportedly reaching about $100 million months before its theatrical release. The early performance has put the upcoming Marvel film well ahead of the initial presales pace recorded by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Early bookings deliver a powerful start

Avengers: Doomsday has generated approximately $100 million in advance ticket sales despite opening its bookings nearly four months before its December 18 release. That is considerably earlier than the standard advance booking period of around 43 days.

The film’s early sales are tracking roughly 65% ahead of the first two days of presales for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Spider-Man film eventually went on to earn more than $2 billion worldwide, making its early ticket demand an important benchmark for Marvel’s latest ensemble project.

Premium-format screenings have also been selling quickly. During the first phase of ticket sales, availability was limited to roughly 1,000 theatres, adding to the significance of the strong early response.

Could Marvel be heading for a billion-dollar debut?

The pace of advance sales has raised expectations for a potentially historic opening weekend. Industry projections suggest that Avengers: Doomsday could become the first movie to approach a $1 billion global opening weekend if its current momentum continues.

However, comparisons with earlier blockbusters come with an important limitation. Most major films experience their biggest presale activity much closer to release, while Doomsday has been selling tickets unusually early. This extended sales period makes direct comparisons with other films more difficult.

Even with that factor in mind, the film has several major advantages driving interest. Its established Marvel identity, large ensemble cast and multiverse storyline give it significant crossover appeal. The lengthy marketing period could also keep attention around the film building as its release date approaches.

Robert Downey Jr. takes on Doctor Doom

One of the biggest attractions surrounding Avengers: Doomsday is the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seven years after his previous MCU appearance, Downey is returning in a completely different role as Doctor Doom.

Downey has said that, for now, he prefers playing Doom to returning as Iron Man. He described the role as offering a new perspective because he gets to experience the story from the side of the villain.

He has also teased an important relationship within Doomsday, describing what happens as exciting, unexpected and beautiful. The comments add another layer of curiosity around the character and his role in the upcoming multiverse story.

D23 footage expands the multiverse conflict

Marvel Studios also offered audiences a special look at Avengers: Doomsday during D23. The footage was introduced by Kevin Feige alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell.

The preview placed Doctor Doom at the centre of the film’s emerging threat and hinted at clashes involving characters from different universes. One of the highlighted moments involved a tense exchange between Downey’s Doom and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday brings together characters associated with the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men. With its large-scale crossover, early ticket demand and December 18 release date, the film is already positioned as one of Marvel’s most closely watched theatrical releases.
