Apple’s next iPhone event is reportedly only weeks away, and the company is expected to focus on its premium smartphone lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to headline the event, alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The upcoming launch comes at a time when rising memory and component costs are creating uncertainty around smartphone prices. Apple increased prices across several major product categories in June, although the iPhone was not among the products affected. That decision helped the iPhone 17 lineup remain competitive as prices of some Android phones increased.
With the next launch approaching, several reports and leaks have pointed to possible changes involving the iPhone 18 Pro’s design, display, cameras, performance, battery and pricing. None of these details have been officially confirmed by Apple, but they offer an early look at what the next Pro models could bring.
Apple Could Split the iPhone 18 Launch
The biggest change may not be related to the hardware itself, but to Apple’s release strategy. Reports suggest the company could divide the iPhone 18 lineup into two launch periods instead of releasing all models together.
The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable iPhone could reportedly arrive in September. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2 and iPhone 18e may follow in spring 2027.
This would mark a significant change from Apple’s traditional approach of launching several models in the same series at the same time.

A Familiar Design With New Color Options
The iPhone 18 Pro models are not expected to receive a major design overhaul after the substantial changes introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series. Apple could instead refine the existing design while introducing new colors.
Reports have pointed to possible cherry red and light blue finishes, alongside a darker gray option. Leaked dummy units have also suggested a more uniform appearance on the rear compared with the two-tone design used on the previous generation.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max could also become slightly thicker and heavier if Apple increases its battery capacity. One report has suggested a thickness increase of 0.25mm and an additional 7 grams of weight.
Smaller Dynamic Island May Be Coming
The front of the iPhone 18 Pro could receive a more noticeable change. Reports suggest Apple may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island by around 35%.
The smaller cutout could involve moving part of the Face ID system beneath the display while maintaining the feature’s existing functionality.
The display sizes are expected to remain familiar, with a 6.3-inch panel on the iPhone 18 Pro and a 6.9-inch screen on the Pro Max. Apple is also reportedly working with suppliers on brighter displays and could adopt more power-efficient LTPO+ technology.
Variable Aperture Could Transform the Cameras
Camera improvements could be one of the most important upgrades. The iPhone 17 Pro models moved all three rear cameras to 48MP, while the iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to introduce variable aperture technology.
Unlike a fixed aperture, a variable system could allow the camera to control how much light reaches the sensor. That could help in both darker and brighter conditions.
Apple may also modify the Camera Control button. The feature, introduced with the iPhone 16, provides quick access to camera controls, but its touch-sensitive design has reportedly caused accidental activations. A redesigned version could remove some of the touch-sensitive components for easier use.
A20 Chip Could Bring More Efficiency
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to use Apple’s A20 chip, which is rumored to be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process. This would represent a move beyond the 3nm technology used by the previous generation.
The A20 is also rumored to use TSMC’s Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module technology, potentially integrating memory more closely with the processor. Reports have suggested improvements in both performance and power efficiency.
Another possible upgrade is Apple’s C2 modem. The company’s own modem could bring improved connectivity features, including 5G satellite support.
Bigger Battery Rumors Raise Expectations
Battery capacity is another area where the Pro Max could see a substantial upgrade. One report has suggested a capacity of up to 5,200mAh, compared with 5,088mAh for the previous-generation Pro Max.
Other leaks have pointed to an even larger 5,567mAh battery for a US version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 Pro could receive a smaller increase in capacity.
Combined with a more efficient processor and modem, these changes could improve battery endurance.
Price and Launch Date Remain Uncertain
Pricing remains one of the biggest unanswered questions. Rising memory and component costs have increased speculation that Apple could raise iPhone prices this year.
One estimate has placed the iPhone 18 Pro at a starting price of $1,299, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could begin at $1,399. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at $1,199.
Apple has not confirmed any pricing details or a launch date. Based on previous release patterns, September 9, 2026 has been suggested as a possible announcement date, with sales potentially beginning the following week. However, the final schedule will only become clear once Apple officially announces its event.
