Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market, with reports suggesting that its first foldable iPhone could arrive alongside the company’s upcoming product lineup. The device has attracted attention online after images and posts circulating on social media appeared to show a foldable iPhone without the prominent crease usually associated with foldable displays.
Apple is expected to hold its next major event on September 9 at 10:30 PM IST. However, the company has not confirmed that a foldable iPhone will be unveiled at the event. Details about the device currently come from reports and leaked information.
A Foldable iPhone Without the Familiar Display Crease?
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the reported device is its display. Posts circulating online claim to show a foldable iPhone with little or no visible crease running through the centre of the screen.
The crease has remained one of the most noticeable characteristics of many foldable smartphones. It develops along the area where the flexible display repeatedly bends, and its visibility can vary depending on the device and display technology.
If Apple manages to significantly reduce the visibility of the crease, it could become one of the key design features of its first foldable iPhone. However, the claim that the device will be completely creaseless has not been confirmed by Apple.
Reports Point to an “iPhone Ultra”
The foldable device has frequently been referred to as the “iPhone Ultra” in reports. According to information circulating ahead of Apple’s event, the smartphone could feature a 5.5-inch outer display.
When unfolded, the device is reportedly expected to offer a much larger 7.8-inch screen. Such a display would give the phone a screen size closer to that of a small tablet when opened, potentially making the foldable form factor more useful for activities that benefit from a larger display.
These specifications remain part of the reported details surrounding the device and have not been officially announced by Apple.
Apple Reportedly Focuses on Reducing the Crease
Reports indicate that Apple has been working on reducing the visibility of the crease that runs through the centre of a foldable display.
For foldable smartphone makers, the crease has been a long-standing design challenge. The display needs to remain flexible enough to fold while also maintaining a smooth appearance when opened. Apple’s reported focus on reducing the crease could therefore be an important part of its approach to foldable phones.
Still, there is a difference between making a crease less noticeable and eliminating it entirely. The images currently circulating online do not provide official confirmation that Apple has achieved a completely creaseless display.
Social Media Users Remain Divided
The alleged images have triggered a mixed response on social media. Some users believe Apple could potentially deliver a foldable phone with a significantly reduced crease, while others remain doubtful.
One user suggested that the device could possibly have a creaseless design but added that the final product would have to be seen before drawing conclusions.
Another expressed skepticism but said a creaseless foldable would be a welcome development.
Others took a more technical view of the discussion, arguing that a foldable display would naturally show some form of crease because of the way the screen bends.
September 9 Could Bring the Answer
Apple has not officially announced its first foldable iPhone, despite reports from outlets including Bloomberg that the company is developing such a device.
The September 9 event could provide more clarity on Apple’s plans. Until then, claims about the foldable iPhone’s design, display size and crease remain based on reports and leaks rather than an official announcement.
If Apple does unveil a foldable iPhone, the display design will likely be one of the most closely watched aspects of the device, particularly whether the company has managed to make the crease far less noticeable than on many existing foldable smartphones.
