Urvashi Rautela has found herself at the centre of a legal dispute involving artificial intelligence, with her team seeking damages of Rs 7,000 crore from Los Angeles-based AI company Bollywood.AI over the alleged unauthorised use of her name, photographs and videos.

The development has brought renewed attention to the issue of celebrity identity rights in the age of AI, particularly as digital platforms explore ways to recreate personalities through artificial intelligence.

The actress’s team has alleged that the company used her name and visual content for commercial purposes without obtaining permission. It has also stated that the damages are currently being assessed at Rs 7,000 crore, although the claim does not represent an awarded compensation amount.

How Did the Urvashi Rautela-Bollywood.AI Dispute Begin?

The controversy came into focus following a viral interview featuring Urvashi Rautela and Los Angeles-based AI company Bollywood.AI.

During the conversation, the actress was asked about Bollywood and artificial intelligence. Responding to the question, she spoke about her love for the film industry while expressing concerns about the impact of AI.

“Bollywood? I think artificial intelligence is something which is really, you know, which is like, you know, Bollywood is suffering with it. And I mean Bollywood is something which I love. So I love Bollywood,” she said.

Following the interview, Rautela’s team raised concerns about the alleged commercial use of her name, images and videos by the AI company.

In a public statement, her team claimed that the business had generated billions of dollars in value through the unauthorised use of the actress’s identity. It also confirmed that legal remedies were being pursued, with damages estimated at Rs 7,000 crore.

The statement further warned businesses against using Rautela’s name, images or likeness without permission.

What Did Bollywood.AI Founder Sheeraz Hasan Say?

The dispute also prompted a public response from Sheeraz Hasan, founder and CEO of Bollywood.AI and Hollywood.AI.

Reacting to Rautela’s comments during the interview, Hasan took to Instagram and said the company had not put those words in the actress’s mouth.

He also advised her to learn more about artificial intelligence and its potential role in the future of Bollywood’s entertainment business.

Hasan described AI-generated movies, vertical dramas and digital stars as emerging parts of the entertainment industry. He argued that digital personalities could operate continuously, communicate in multiple languages and maintain their appearance over time.

His response added another dimension to the disagreement, bringing the discussion back to how artificial intelligence could reshape the entertainment business and the role of human performers.
