The Mumbai-based edtech unicorn upGrad has announced the launch of the upGrad AI Incubator which is a strategic initiative to develop homegrown artificial intelligence (AI) startups. Strengthening AI-Led Learning & Skilling

This effort builds on upGrad’s wider initiatives to enhance AI education in India. The Company has recently partnered with industry and governmental organizations to provide AI education to over one million learners and set up AI Centers of Excellence across the country with the economic impact and workforce readiness in mind.

The upGrad AI Incubator will target the rapid development of plug-and-play AI solutions that work across industries. Using AI, upGrad hopes to provide personalized learning models, one-to-many tutoring systems, and assessment tools that are smarter and more real-world oriented, while reducing test fatigue.

Investment in Emerging Startups

For the subsequent months, upGrad’s plan will entail acquiring minority stakes in 5 or 6 AI startups so that the company can keep track of upcoming breakthroughs without entering into full ownership.
