Apple’s first foldable phone – iPhone Duo has arrived with a premium price tag, but just how premium depends heavily on where it is purchased.
The iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900 in India for the 256GB model, putting the country at the top of a seven-market price comparison that includes the US, Canada, Hong Kong, the UAE, Germany and Singapore. The same entry-level model starts at $1,999 in the US, roughly ₹1.90 lakh using the conversion cited in the comparison, although American buyers may still have to pay state-level sales tax.
What stands out even more is the gap with Hong Kong. The iPhone Duo is priced at HKD 17,499, or roughly ₹2.12 lakh. Based on those converted figures, an Indian buyer is looking at a difference of approximately ₹87,900, before taking travel costs, payment charges or any other expenses into account.
US leads the price comparison, but there is a tax catch
Among the seven markets compared, the US carries the lowest listed starting price for the iPhone Duo at $1,999.
That sticker price does not include sales tax. The comparison estimates that adding a tax rate in the 5 to 8 percent range could take the final amount closer to $2,150, or roughly ₹2.04 lakh. Even at that estimated level, the US remains considerably below the Indian starting price.
Canada follows at CAD 2,999, shown as roughly ₹2.06 lakh before applicable taxes. Hong Kong comes next at roughly ₹2.12 lakh, while the UAE price of AED 8,499 works out to approximately ₹2.20 lakh. Singapore is higher at SGD 3,099, or about ₹2.33 lakh.
Germany, used as the European market in the comparison, starts at EUR 2,299, approximately ₹2.54 lakh. That still leaves it substantially below the Indian price.
iPhone Duo 256GB price comparison
| Market | Starting price | Approximate rupee equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| US | $1,999 | ₹1.90 lakh |
| Canada | CAD 2,999 | ₹2.06 lakh |
| Hong Kong | HKD 17,499 | ₹2.12 lakh |
| UAE | AED 8,499 | ₹2.20 lakh |
| Singapore | SGD 3,099 | ₹2.33 lakh |
| Germany | EUR 2,299 | ₹2.54 lakh |
| India | ₹2,99,900 | ₹3 lakh |
The rupee figures above are approximate conversions used in the market comparison, rather than final landed costs for a buyer travelling between countries. Taxes are also handled differently across markets.
India sits at the expensive end of the table
At ₹2,99,900, the 256GB iPhone Duo costs close to ₹1.1 lakh more than the US price when the American sticker price is converted directly into rupees.
The gap remains large even against markets much closer to India on the table. Compared with Hong Kong, the difference is around ₹88,000. Against the UAE, it is about ₹80,000 on the approximate rupee conversions.
The India pricing becomes even more striking as storage increases.
Apple has priced the 512GB iPhone Duo at ₹3,24,900, while the 1TB version costs ₹3,74,900. Buyers choosing the top-end 2TB configuration will pay ₹4,49,900.
That means moving from the entry-level 256GB model to the 2TB version adds exactly ₹1.5 lakh to the Indian purchase price.
Apple’s first foldable comes in four storage options
The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s first entry into the foldable-phone category. It features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, according to the announced specifications.
The phone is being offered in four storage configurations, with Night Sky and Star White listed as the two colour choices.
For buyers comparing international prices, however, the headline feature may be less about the folding screen and more about the unusually wide spread between markets.
The numbers show that there is no single global price for Apple’s new foldable once local pricing structures and taxes enter the picture. A US purchase carries the lowest listed price among the markets compared, while Hong Kong and Canada remain relatively close behind. India stands apart at the other end, with the 256GB model approaching ₹3 lakh before a buyer even considers moving up the storage ladder.
For Indian customers, that makes the iPhone Duo not only a new form factor for Apple, but also one of the company’s most expensive smartphone purchases yet based on the announced local pricing.
