Gamescom 2026 is beginning to look less like a single week of announcements and more like several gaming events running alongside one another.

The show returns to Cologne, Germany, with Opening Night Live on August 25, followed by the main Gamescom week from August 26 to August 30 at Koelnmesse. Beyond the expected trailers and publisher showcases, this year’s programme is taking shape around two particularly strong threads: Xbox is preparing a large physical presence with 140 gaming stations, while horror games are spread unusually widely across the show floor and broadcast schedule.

That combination gives Gamescom 2026 a character of its own before the doors have even opened.

Opening Night Live starts the week on August 25

The first major appointment is Gamescom Opening Night Live, with the main broadcast scheduled for August 25 at 11am PDT, 2pm EDT, 7pm BST and 8pm CEST. A 30-minute pre-show will begin before the main presentation. Geoff Keighley and Eefje Depoortere are set to host the showcase, which is expected to include premieres, announcements, trailers and gameplay reveals.

Among the confirmed appearances are another look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, featuring game director Naoki Hamaguchi, and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past expansion. The broadcast will be available through YouTube and Twitch.

For viewers following Gamescom across the full week, IGN is also set to broadcast from Cologne between August 25 and August 30, with coverage including developer interviews, show-floor demos, trailers and gameplay.

Gamescom 2026: Xbox is bringing two broadcasts and 140 gaming stations

Xbox is not relying on a single livestream this year.

Its first Gamescom broadcast is scheduled for August 26 at 7am PDT, 10am EDT, 3pm BST and 4pm CEST, with trailers, gameplay, interviews and special guests expected. A second live broadcast follows at the same time on August 27, again focusing on games, developer conversations and additional announcements.

The bigger story may be what Xbox is doing away from the cameras.

Its Gamescom booth is planned around 140 gaming stations featuring 25 upcoming games. Titles named for the booth include Fable, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Alien: Isolation 2, Stranger Than Heaven, Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons II and Metro 2039.

Developers are also expected to be present to meet players.

GamesRadar+’s Gamescom overview also lists publishers including Bandai Namco, Nintendo, Krafton, NetEase Games, Ubisoft, Sega, HoYoverse and Team17 among the event partners. Other games highlighted as playable at the show include Forza Horizon 6, Persona 4 Revival and Rayman Legends Retold.

That physical footprint matters because Gamescom is not only a trailer event. Once the public show begins on August 26, playable builds and booth experiences become a major part of what separates Cologne from the increasingly crowded calendar of digital gaming showcases.

Future Games Show gets more than 90 minutes

The Future Games Show at Gamescom is scheduled for August 26 at 10am PDT, 1pm EDT, 6pm BST and 7pm CEST.

The presentation will run for more than 90 minutes and will be hosted by Resident Evil Requiem actors Nick Apostolides and Angela Sant’Albano, who play Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft respectively. Developer deep dives, demo releases, world premieres and exclusive trailers are among the planned elements.

The broadcast will be followed immediately by FGS Live from Gamescom, taking viewers onto the show floor for further premieres, interviews and news from Cologne.

Another dedicated presentation, Gamescom Awesome Indies, begins on August 27 at 11am PDT, 2pm EDT, 7pm BST and 8pm CEST. The programme is expected to run for roughly 60 to 75 minutes, focusing on indie previews, trailers, interviews and gameplay.

The Future Games Show team will then return on August 30 with FGS Best of Gamescom, scheduled for 7pm CEST, bringing together major announcements, booth tours and developer insights from the week.

CD Projekt Red is also planning daily REDstreams throughout August 26 to 30. Those broadcasts are scheduled to run from 10am to 7pm CEST, with previews, interviews, guests and behind-the-scenes material.

Horror could be Gamescom 2026’s strongest genre story

The schedule is broad, but the concentration of horror games stands out.

Silent Hill: Townfall is confirmed for Gamescom and is due to receive a new trailer during Opening Night Live. The game will also have a themed booth at the event.

Konami is pairing that appearance with another notable attraction: Gamescom will host the first hands-on opportunity for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, which is currently set for release in October.

Then there is Alien: Isolation 2.

Sega has confirmed the game for the show, and attendees are expected to get a hands-on experience rather than simply another trailer. The booth plans also include photo opportunities, on-stand challenges and merchandise giveaways. No release date is currently listed in the material provided.

The horror presence extends well beyond those larger names.

Silver Pines, described as a survival-horror Metroidvania set in small-town America, is coming to the event through Team17. Bloober Team is bringing Cronos: Lazarus, the story DLC for Cronos: The New Dawn, with fans expected to get a preview of the expansion and opportunities to meet the team.

SAW: Genesis is also listed for Gamescom through developer Broken Mirror Games, while EONA and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are both set to be present and playable.

Taken together, it means horror will not be confined to a single publisher presentation. It will run through Opening Night Live, major booths, playable demos and smaller projects across the convention floor.

Gamescom stretches well beyond its opening showcase

IGN’s Gamescom studio programming continues after the first two days. Its Day 1 coverage begins on August 26 at 3pm CEST, followed by Day 2 at the same time on August 27. The Gamescom Award Show and IGN’s Day 3 studio broadcast are scheduled for August 28 at 3pm CEST, with further studio programming on August 29 and August 30.

IGN lists its website, YouTube, Twitch and social channels among the places carrying Gamescom coverage, alongside additional partner platforms.

That spread of programming helps explain why Gamescom 2026 cannot be reduced to Opening Night Live alone. The opening presentation may generate the first wave of headlines, but some of the week’s most useful information for players is likely to emerge later, when developers begin showing games in longer sessions and attendees get access to playable builds.

With two Xbox broadcasts, an enormous Xbox booth, daily CD Projekt Red streams, more than 90 minutes of Future Games Show programming and a horror roster running from Silent Hill to Alien: Isolation 2, Gamescom 2026 is shaping up as a packed six-day stretch rather than one oversized reveal night.

For players following from home, August 25 is the starting point. For those interested in what these games actually feel like to play, August 26 is when the more revealing part of Gamescom begins.
