Mumbai-based urban mobility platform Cityflo, operated by Komorebi Tech Solutions, has announced a strategic joint venture with Globus Trans Solutions LLP to launch Urban Glide, a new initiative aimed at revolutionizing the state government-run bus transit ecosystem.
Urban Glide: A New Era in Public Transportation
Urban Glide will employ the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, which gives private businesses authority over daily bus operations while giving the government authority over routes and tariffs. This approach has been successfully used in countries like Singapore and the UK, guaranteeing efficient service delivery while upholding public oversight.
The venture will commence with 150 buses in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and plans to scale up to 500 buses within the first year. The focus will be on deploying clean, electric buses to provide safe, reliable, and eco-friendly transportation options for commuters.
Leadership with Extensive Public Transit Experience
Urban Glide benefits from the expertise of industry veterans:
- Victor Nagaonkar: Former operations head at Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), bringing over four decades of experience in public transportation.
- Sunil Solanki: A seasoned professional with extensive operational experience in public transit companies like Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
A Significant Step Towards Sustainable Urban Transport
Cityflo CEO Jerin Venad underlined the revolutionary potential of their current project. “This isn’t just a business plan,” he stated. This represents a major change in India’s urban transportation infrastructure. The large scale we aim to achieve is the deployment of clean, electric buses that can effectively transport more than 20 crore (200 million) passengers per day.
Cityflo’s Urban Glide project aims to provide inexpensive and sustainable public transport solutions in Mumbai. The Cityflo’s Urban Glide project aims to reduce pollution and improve the daily commute experience by utilising greener energy and more efficient operational approaches.
