What is Call Merging Scam?
Call Merging Scam is a new type of cyber fraud where scammers trick people into revealing sensitive information, such as OTPs (One-Time Passwords), by merging calls. Fraudsters pose as trusted persons, like bank representatives or friends, and request victims to merge a third call. This call is usually an automated OTP service, which the scammers utilize to obtain unauthorized access to the victim’s bank account or UPI wallet.

How Scammers Operate
- Step 1: The victim is called by the scammer, claiming to be a friend, company, or bank.
- Step 2: They ask the victim to join another call, saying it is urgent.
- Step 3: The second call is an automated one that provides an OTP for a transaction.
- Step 4: The fraudster hears the OTP and is able to enter into the victim’s account.
- Step 5: Money is routed out before the victim becomes aware of the scam.
