Amul, a company founded in Anand, Gujarat in 1946, established as a symbol of protest to stop exploitation by middlemen, has now become the largest milk producer in the world and a national household essential.

A Household Name Across Generations

Under the guidance of visionary leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Morarji Desai and Tribhuvandas Patel, Amul expanded and its model was replicated throughout the country. With time and success, Amul products were endorsed in every home. Amul milk in morning in chai, Amul Doodh before going to school, Amul Dahi for daily buttermilk, and Amul ice cream at every family gathering.

Crossing Borders: Amul Goes Global

However, the company which was thus far national has now gone global. Amul officially partnered with Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP) on June 5. The Spanish cooperative has established a deal to introduce Amul’s signature product to the soul of the Mediterranean, Spain.

Sealing the Deal: Amul x COVAP

In the official launch event held at the Embassy of India in Madrid, Amul Managing Director Jayen Mehta stated “This is for the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe. It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world, in alignment with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi to make Amul a global dairy brand”.

Voices from the Launch in Madrid

The COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno said “This partnership with Amul allows us to work with another cooperative to help them grow their brand in Spain, benefiting not only our own dairy farmer members, but those in India as well. The collaboration brings together COVAP technology capabilities and high-quality milk with the Amul brand’s rapidly growing and well-known, international reputation for premium dairy products.”

Amul Leche: A New Name in Spanish Homes

Hence, Amul ‘leche’ -Spanish for milk- is set to debut in Madrid and Barcelona, with subsequent rollouts planned for Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba and Lisbon in Portugal. Looking ahead, Amul plans to expand its footprint across Europe, targeting key markets such as Italy, Germany, and Switzerland.

With this bold step into the heart of Europe, Amul isn’t just exporting milk—it’s exporting a legacy. With that in mind, one sip at a time, Amul is turning local taste into a global tradition.
