EaseMyTrip Faces ₹17.35 Lakh Penalty Over GST Norm Violations

EaseMyTrip, one of India’s leading travel-tech firms, has been served with a penalty notice amounting to ₹17.35 lakh for allegedly breaching Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations. The Sales Tax Officer, Class II/AVATO, Delhi, issued the notice under the jurisdiction of the Delhi state tax authorities.

According to official filings, the company was notified of the penalty via an order dated February 24, 2025. The allegations stem from claims that EaseMyTrip availed of ineligible input tax credit (ITC) for 2020-21, violating multiple provisions of GST laws.

As per INC42, Authorities cited specific breaches under:

  • Delhi Goods and Services Act, 2017
  • Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017
  • Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017

In response, the company has acknowledged the receipt of the order and has expressed its intention to challenge the penalty. EaseMyTrip is expected to file an appeal against the ruling, seeking a resolution in its favor.

While the specifics of the alleged violations remain undisclosed, tax authorities have been increasingly scrutinizing businesses for incorrect or fraudulent ITC claims, which have been a significant concern for GST compliance in India.

The case is likely to be closely monitored, as EaseMyTrip remains a publicly listed entity with significant investor interest. More details are expected to emerge as the company proceeds with its appeal process.
