The leaked footage delivers the first substantial gameplay look at Motive’s Iron Man project since its 2022 announcement, showing flight, combat and what appears to be suit customization. The studio has confirmed the material is genuine, but has stopped short of announcing a release window.
Four years after EA Motive announced it was working on an Iron Man game, the project has finally been seen in action. Just not in the way the studio intended.
Several minutes of unfinished gameplay footage from Motive’s upcoming Marvel project began circulating online in late August, offering an unexpected look at Tony Stark in flight, combat and what appears to be an armor customization system. Motive subsequently confirmed that the leaked footage is real.
In particular, one of the most indicative details of this video is the “AUG26” watermark that is clearly visible in it. It indicates that the content of the video comes from a new development/build, as opposed to the previous promotional footage. The footage itself is clearly uncompleted; hence, it is necessary not to consider its visuals as the completed game’s visuals.
Motive breaks its long silence after the leak
The leak also prompted an unusually direct response from the project’s official account.
“Well, that didn’t go as planned. But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you,” the team wrote after confirming the footage. The message ended with a clear indication that a proper reveal will happen on Motive’s terms: “See you when we’re ready.”
That response is notable because the Iron Man project has remained largely out of public view since it was announced in 2022. The leak represents the first substantial gameplay glimpse of the game during that period.
What the leaked Iron Man footage shows
It begins with Iron Man lifting off into flight through an urban setting, all powered by the thrusters on his suit. The other portions involve action sequences, where Tony Stark pummels opponents and hurls them to the ground.
Additionally, there is footage of Tony Stark and a section featuring modifications of the Iron Man suit that seems to lead to something involving player modification of the armor.
A S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is also reportedly visible, while Pepper Potts and James Rhodes appear among the familiar Marvel characters spotted in the leaked material.
The broader gameplay shown in the leak combines two elements that will naturally define any Iron Man game: aerial movement and combat. Both flight and fighting are already present in playable form in the leaked build.
There is, however, one detail that remains unclear. Reports examining the footage have differed over the identity of the city shown during the flying sequences, with different outlets describing different locations. Without an official confirmation from Motive, the setting should therefore not be treated as established.
Iron Man has been in development since 2022
Motive revealed the project in 2022 as a third-person, single-player action-adventure game built around an original Tony Stark story. Since then, official gameplay has remained out of sight, which makes the appearance of the leaked build particularly significant.
At the same time, the unfinished state of the footage means it provides only a limited snapshot of development. Assets visible in the leaked material are not necessarily representative of what players will eventually see in a finished release.
The “AUG26” marking does at least indicate that the footage is tied to the current period of development, giving the leak more relevance than an old prototype or abandoned build would have.
This is not the cancelled Avalanche Iron Man game
The timing of the leak has also created some potential confusion.
Separate footage from an older Iron Man project developed by Avalanche Studios surfaced only days earlier. That game was cancelled and has no connection to Motive’s current project. The newly leaked material belongs to EA Motive’s active Iron Man game.
The distinction matters because the two leaks appeared within a short period despite coming from entirely different projects.
No release window has been announced
For all the attention surrounding the footage, Motive’s confirmation has not been accompanied by a release date or release window.
The studio’s response instead suggests it plans to reveal more when development reaches the point at which the team is comfortable showing the game publicly. The leaked build may have brought Iron Man into the spotlight earlier than intended, but Motive has made no commitment about when the next official presentation will take place.
For now, the leak offers something players have been waiting years to see: evidence of how Motive is translating Iron Man’s flight, combat and armor into an actual playable experience.
What it does not provide is a reliable release timetable, a finished visual benchmark or confirmation of every location and character being discussed around the footage.
Motive’s own response leaves the clearest indication of what comes next. There is more to show, but the studio intends to do that when it is ready.
