Amsterdam-based financial services startup Neno has raised €6.6 million in Seed funding, months after launching in the Netherlands and building a customer base of almost 200 businesses.
The funding will support the launch of Neno Labs, further research and development around the company’s “Ambient AI” technology, expansion of its accounting and tax teams, and additional hiring across go-to-market functions. Neno is also preparing to enter new European markets in 2027.
The round was led by New York-based early-stage venture fund AlleyCorp, with participation from Motive Partners and Firstminute Capital, alongside a group of angel investors. Neno said its angel investor base includes executives from Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal and Navro.

The investment comes at an early stage in Neno’s commercial journey. The company launched in the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2026 and has since grown to almost 200 customers. Its early customer base includes SOUS, FeedbackFruits, The Cirqle, Airweave and Rally, with businesses spanning hospitality, HR, legal, e-commerce and SaaS. Airweave and Rally are backed by Y Combinator.
Bringing the back office into one system
Neno is building an AI-native financial workspace designed to bring several functions that small and medium-sized businesses often manage separately into a single system.
Its platform combines accounting, tax, payroll and business banking, with the company positioning automation as a way to reduce the time entrepreneurs spend coordinating administrative work.
Founder and CEO Nick Knuppe said Neno wants to move business owners away from managing separate relationships with banks, bookkeepers and tax advisers.
“Instead of business owners coordinating between banks, bookkeepers, and tax advisors, we deliver a single ‘done-for-you’ state of work where reconciliation, compliance, and reporting happen automatically in the background. The business owner’s only touchpoint is reviewing what’s already been handled,” Knuppe said.
Neno estimates that its approach could save entrepreneurs more than 100 hours of administrative work each year. The startup said its team brings together former founders, fintech professionals and chartered accountants with previous experience at companies including Mollie, Adyen, Remote, Plaid, Deloitte, BDO and EY.
Neno is betting on a real-time general ledger
At the centre of Neno’s technology is what the company describes as an “agentic general ledger.”
Rather than treating information from different financial tools as separate workflows, the system brings together data from business bank accounts, corporate cards, bill payments and receivables.
Neno says this structure allows it to complete reconciliation and VAT preparation five times faster. The company also reports that customers save an average of eight hours of administrative work each month and reduce annualised accounting fees by 20%.
Those figures are company-reported, but they highlight the specific problem Neno is trying to address: businesses may have digital tools for banking, payroll, accounting and payments, yet still depend on people to move information between those systems and keep financial records aligned.
Neno’s model is built around bringing those processes closer together while retaining professional accounting and tax services within the offering.
A €200 billion market in its sights
The company is targeting Europe’s accounting, tax and professional services market, which Neno estimates is worth more than €200 billion annually.
It also points to the scale of outsourced financial administration among European businesses. More than half of Europe’s 26 million SMEs outsource accounting, payroll and tax work to external providers, according to figures cited by the company, with outsourcing particularly common among companies employing between 10 and 100 people.
Neno believes that model is increasingly under pressure. It argues that banking, accounting, tax and payroll processes remain fragmented, while shortages of accounting professionals make it harder for conventional firms to maintain traditional client-to-accountant ratios.
For Neno, the opportunity is therefore not simply to automate individual bookkeeping tasks. Its broader bet is that AI can sit underneath much of a company’s financial administration while professional services remain embedded in the same system.
AlleyCorp investor Luc Ryan-Schreiber said that combination was central to the firm’s decision to back the startup.
“AI-native financial infrastructure with embedded professional services is one of the most compelling untouched opportunities in modern fintech today,” Ryan-Schreiber said.
He added that AlleyCorp sees Neno as reworking the role traditionally played by accountants and tax advisers, pointing to the team’s domain experience and its potential to build a broader category around AI-native financial services.
Fresh capital goes into Neno Labs and European expansion
Part of the Seed funding will now go into establishing Neno Labs, where the company plans to continue research and development around what it calls Ambient AI.
Neno will also expand its accounting and tax teams and hire further across go-to-market roles. Beyond its home market in the Netherlands, the startup intends to begin expanding into additional European markets in 2027.
With almost 200 customers already using the platform following its first-quarter launch, the next stage will test whether Neno can carry its integrated financial services model beyond the Netherlands while maintaining the level of automation on which its proposition is built.
