Mountain Dew is celebrating the 22nd birthday of its iconic Baja Blast with a limited-edition flavor that brings a spicy twist to the popular soda. The PepsiCo brand is introducing Mountain Dew Zero Sugar Baja Leo, an exclusive drink inspired by the zodiac sign associated with Baja Blast’s original release date.
Baja Blast has built a strong following since Mountain Dew and Taco Bell introduced the tropical lime-flavored soda in 2004. Over the years, the flavor has expanded beyond its original Taco Bell connection, appearing in new variations, food collaborations and special promotions.
The latest release continues that tradition, but with a flavor combination unlike the usual Baja Blast profile.
Baja Blast Gets a Zodiac-Inspired Birthday Flavor
Mountain Dew Baja Blast was first released on July 29, 2004. With the soda turning 22 this year, the brand has drawn inspiration from the Leo zodiac sign, which covers birthdays from late July through August.
Leo is traditionally associated with qualities such as confidence, creativity, passion and dramatic flair. Mountain Dew has used those characteristics as inspiration for its newest Baja Blast creation.
The result is Baja Leo, a zero-sugar soda designed around three distinctive flavors: spiced mango, chili lime and black pepper.
The combination gives the drink a noticeably different character from the classic Baja Blast. Mango brings a fruity and warm element, while chili lime adds a spicy kick. Black pepper rounds out the blend with a sharper, mildly spicy finish.

Spiced Mango and Chili Lime Lead the Flavor
The three-part flavor profile is central to Baja Leo’s concept. The mango element represents the warmth associated with Leo and its connection to the sun. Chili lime provides the heat and intensity, while black pepper delivers a lingering spicy note.
Rather than introducing another variation built around a familiar fruit flavor, Mountain Dew is combining sweetness, citrus and spice in one drink.
The launch also comes as Baja Blast continues to receive special attention from Mountain Dew and Taco Bell. The flavor has previously inspired additional Baja varieties and collaborations, helping turn the soda into one of the brand’s most recognizable offerings.
For Baja Blast fans, the birthday release offers another opportunity to try a flavor that is expected to be available only in limited quantities.
Baja Leo Remains a U.S.-Only Release for Now
Mountain Dew Zero Sugar Baja Leo is currently announced only for the U.S. market, with Mountain Dew confirming that the limited-edition soda will be sold exclusively through its TikTok Shop from August 12, 2026, while supplies last.
There is no confirmed announcement from PepsiCo India about a launch of Baja Leo in India at this time. PepsiCo India continues to market Mountain Dew as part of its Indian beverage portfolio and has announced other India-specific Mountain Dew products and campaigns, but its official India communications do not list Baja Leo as an upcoming Indian release. Therefore, Indian consumers should not expect an official retail launch of Baja Leo unless PepsiCo India announces one separately.
Baja Leo Will Be Sold Exclusively Online
Unlike a regular retail launch, Baja Leo will not initially be available through stores nationwide. Mountain Dew is releasing the new flavor exclusively through its TikTok Shop.
The soda will go on sale on August 12 at noon Eastern Time, with availability limited to the supplies on hand.
Each purchase bundle will include one 12-ounce Baja Leo soda in special birthday packaging along with a 12-pack of Baja Blast. The bundle is priced at $8 and includes free shipping.
Because the release is limited, customers who want to try the new flavor will have a narrow window to purchase it. Once the available Baja Leo boxes are sold, the exclusive birthday flavor will no longer be available through the launch.
A Limited Release for Baja Blast Fans
Mountain Dew has previously marked major Baja Blast milestones with new offerings. When Baja Blast turned 20, the soda became available in stores year-round. A year later, Taco Bell introduced Baja Midnight, the first new Baja Blast flavor.
The 22nd birthday brings another first with Baja Leo, a flavor built around the zodiac identity of Baja Blast itself.
There is currently no indication that Baja Leo will receive a wider retail release after its TikTok Shop debut. For fans interested in adding the unusual spiced mango, chili lime and black pepper combination to their collection, the August 12 launch will therefore be the key opportunity to get it while supplies last.
