MilkStation: Transforming Rajasthan’s Dairy Industry with High-Quality Products

MilkStation, a dairy startup launched by Nirmal Choudhary and his brother Manish, is transforming Rajasthan into a diversified dairy hub. Rajasthan is a significant player in India’s dairy production, ranking second in the country.

Current Production Statistics

Rajasthan ranked as India’s second-largest milk producer in FY23, following Uttar Pradesh. Despite this achievement, the state lagged in dairy processing due to infrastructure gaps and quality concerns. Recognizing this untapped potential, Nirmal Choudhary, an engineer and former UPSC aspirant, partnered with his brother Manish to launch MilkStation. Their mission was to provide fresh, high-quality dairy products while addressing systemic challenges in the industry.

“Life was good in Bangalore, but my parents wanted me to go back to my hometown and do something meaningful. I also felt the urge to create something of my own,” said Nirmal in an interview with Startuppedia.

The Origin Story

While conducting his research, Nirmal stumbled upon an unexpected gap in Jodhpur’s economy. Despite its reputation as the “ghee mandi of Asia,” the region lacked substantial ghee processing units or prominent local brands. Recognizing this untapped potential, he decided to enter the dairy industry.In 2021, Milk Station was established with an initial investment of Rs. 2.5 crore.

This initial capital was secured through a well-planned financing strategy.

MilkStation operates a  processing unit in Pali, Rajasthan, with a daily capacity of 40 kilolitres. The facility employs advanced techniques such as pasteurization, homogenization, and cream separation to ensure product quality. The extracted cream is used to produce pasteurized butter and their flagship product—pure desi ghee. MilkStation also manufactures paneer (cottage cheese), dahi (curd), chaas (buttermilk), lassi, and unique offerings like camel milk-based cookies and soaps.

The startup emphasizes stringent quality control throughout production and prioritizes fresh delivery. By focusing on both traditional and innovative products, MilkStation has carved a niche in the competitive dairy market.

Growth Trajectory

Since its inception, MilkStation has achieved remarkable growth. Within two years of operations, the company scaled up to processing 15,000 litres of milk per day—triple its initial target of 5,000 litres daily within three months of launch. Products with short shelf lives are distributed locally in Pali and Jodhpur, while items with longer shelf lives are sold in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru through distribution networks and e-commerce platforms.

The brand reported a 3x revenue growth in FY23 and plans further expansion. In 2024, MilkStation aims to introduce an ice cream factory and establish outlets in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Pali for offline sales. By 2025, it intends to set up a large-scale cheese factory and adopt a B2B2C model.

Future Vision

With ambitious plans for ice cream production and large-scale cheese manufacturing on the horizon, MilkStation is poised to become a major force in India’s dairy sector.
