The Central Government recently released new guidelines on linking PAN cards with Aadhaar. The update targets individuals who acquired PAN cards based on their Aadhaar enrolment ID.
PAN-Aadhaar Linking : Key Updates
- Who Needs to Link: The new regulation is for those who got their PAN card via their Aadhaar enrolment ID. They will now have to give their original Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department in order to connect the two.
- Deadline: The last date to complete this linking process is December 31, 2025.
- Consequences of Missing the Deadline: Failing to link may cause problems, particularly when filing income tax returns (ITR). People intending to file ITR must link the PAN and Aadhar before July 31st

How to Link PAN and Aadhaar:
To link PAN with Aadhaar, you will need:
- A valid PAN number
- Your Aadhaar number
- An active mobile number
Steps to link:
- Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Go to the ‘Quick Links’ section on the homepage and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
- Follow the instructions and complete the process.
The notification was released under Section 139AA(2A) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has mandated that all affected individuals provide their Aadhaar number to the Principal Director General of Income Tax (Systems) or the authorized person within the stipulated time.
