Jio IPO opens with a price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share. The issue closes on October 23, with shares scheduled to list on October 28.

Jio Platforms made a strong start to its Rs 30,200-crore initial public offering (IPO) on Wednesday, October 21, with the portion reserved for qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) receiving bids for 1.95 times the shares available within just 28 minutes of opening.

The early rush from institutional investors contrasted with a slower response from retail and non-institutional participants. According to NSE subscription data reported by Moneycontrol, the retail portion was subscribed 8 percent, while non-institutional investors had bid for 11 percent of their allocated shares. Overall subscription stood at 56 percent at the time of the update.

The public issue, priced between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119 per share, will remain open until October 23. The company is targeting a listing on both the BSE and NSE on October 28.

Rs 2.5 lakh crore in anchor demand sets the stage

Institutional interest in Jio Platforms was evident even before the IPO opened to the public.

On October 19, the company raised Rs 8,109.84 crore from 212 anchor investors. Demand in the anchor book reportedly reached nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore, making it the first Indian IPO to attract bids of that magnitude.

The anchor investor list included major global investment firms such as BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, T. Rowe Price, Schroders, JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton, Invesco and Prudential.

Sovereign wealth funds and pension investors also participated, including Singapore’s GIC, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Qatar Investment Authority and Norges Bank Investment Management.

Indian institutions were represented by SBI Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential, Nippon India and other major fund houses. Life Insurance Corporation of India and several private insurers and pension funds also took part.

The size and diversity of the anchor book indicate considerable institutional interest, although that demand does not guarantee similar enthusiasm across all investor categories or a strong stock market debut.

What brokerages are saying about Jio Platforms IPO

Several brokerage firms have expressed favourable views on the offering, citing Jio’s subscriber base, network infrastructure and opportunities beyond conventional telecom services.

Motilal Oswal recommended subscribing to the issue for both listing gains and long-term investment.

The brokerage highlighted Jio’s nationwide 5G network, its JioAirFiber fixed wireless broadband business and its growing presence in cloud, enterprise services and artificial intelligence.

It also pointed to improving operating profitability. Jio Platforms’ EBITDA margin increased from 50.16 percent in FY24 to 51.91 percent in FY26, reaching 53.26 percent in the first quarter of FY27.

HDFC Securities highlighted the company’s proprietary technology capabilities, network infrastructure and operational scale.

Emkay Global described the IPO valuation as reasonable, considering the company’s market position, pricing power and execution record. The brokerage also noted the potential for stronger cash generation as the 5G investment cycle winds down.

SBICAPS said the pricing reflects Jio Platforms’ scale, earnings growth and long-term monetisation prospects. It also expects the proposed debt repayment to improve the company’s financial flexibility.

Where will Jio Platforms use the IPO proceeds?

A portion of the money raised through the fresh issue will be used to repay borrowings at Jio Platforms’ telecom subsidiary. The remaining proceeds are earmarked for general corporate purposes.

Debt reduction could help lower financing costs and strengthen the company’s financial position, while providing greater room for future investment.

The IPO will also establish a publicly traded market valuation for Jio Platforms, which operates across mobile connectivity, broadband, digital entertainment, cloud and enterprise services.

A 533 million subscriber base underpins Jio’s market position

Jio Platforms’ scale remains central to the investment case.

As of June 2026, the company had 533.3 million subscribers and accounted for approximately 60 percent of India’s wireless data traffic. It also held a spectrum portfolio of 26,800.8 MHz.

Since entering the telecom market in 2016, Jio has expanded beyond mobile services into home broadband and several digital businesses.

The company’s large subscriber base and network investments give it a foundation to expand these services, although future profitability will depend on how effectively it converts that scale into revenue and earnings.

What investors should watch before October 23

The striking feature of Jio Platforms’ IPO opening is the difference between institutional enthusiasm and broader public participation.

The QIB quota was subscribed nearly twice over within 28 minutes, but retail demand stood at just 8 percent in the early update. Whether that gap narrows during the remaining subscription period will be worth watching.

Investors will also be assessing the issue’s valuation, the company’s ability to improve monetisation and the potential benefits of reducing debt.

With subscription closing on October 23 and the proposed listing scheduled for October 28, attention will now turn to how demand develops across investor categories over the next two days.
