California YouTube TV subscribers who meet a specific set of eligibility rules may be able to claim an estimated $92.26 from a $7.5 million class action settlement involving Google and YouTube. The filing deadline is August 30, 2026.

Google LLC and YouTube LLC have agreed to a $7.5 million settlement in a class action dispute over the sale and renewal of YouTube TV subscriptions in California.

The case centers on allegations that the companies did not provide disclosures required under California’s Automatic Renewal Law and failed to obtain proper affirmative consent before charging subscribers for automatically renewing YouTube TV subscriptions. Google and YouTube have not admitted wrongdoing.

For eligible customers, the settlement could translate into an estimated cash payment of $92.26. That figure is not guaranteed, however. The final amount each approved claimant receives will depend on how many valid claims are ultimately submitted.

Who may qualify for the YouTube TV settlement?

The settlement applies to a defined group of California subscribers rather than YouTube TV customers generally.

To qualify, a person must have been a California resident who enrolled in YouTube TV and paid for at least one renewal term between February 1, 2017, and October 29, 2021.

The subscription must also have been purchased through YouTube billing and used for personal or household purposes.

That eligibility window is important because simply having used YouTube TV during the period does not, on its own, establish eligibility. The settlement specifically concerns customers who enrolled and then paid for at least one renewal term under the qualifying conditions.

Estimated payment is $92.26, but the final figure can change

Eligible class members can submit a claim for an estimated payment of $92.26, and no proof of purchase is required.

The actual payout will be determined after the claim process closes. If the number of valid claims differs from expectations, the amount distributed to individual claimants may also change.

Claimants have several ways to receive their money. Available payment methods include ACH transfer, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, a virtual prepaid card and, for mailed claims, a paper check.

That gives claimants six listed payout routes, although the method available in a particular claim may depend on how it is submitted.

How to submit a claim before August 30

The deadline to file a claim is August 30, 2026.

Eligible subscribers can submit their claim through YouTubeTVSettlement.com using the login ID and PIN included in their settlement notice.

Those who prefer to file by mail can download a claim form and send it to the settlement administrator.

The combination of a defined eligibility period and a fixed filing deadline means qualifying former subscribers who received a notice have a relatively short window remaining to act.

What the lawsuit alleged

The lawsuit was originally filed in June 2020 by plaintiff Lance Dutcher.

The complaint alleged that YouTube made subscription cancellation difficult for consumers and failed to comply with disclosure requirements connected with automatically renewing subscriptions.

At the heart of the dispute is California’s Automatic Renewal Law, which requires businesses to clearly disclose automatic renewal terms and obtain consumer consent before charging for a renewing subscription.

Google and YouTube agreed to settle the case without admitting wrongdoing, resolving the claims while avoiding the continued risk and uncertainty associated with litigation.

Settlement payments will not arrive immediately

Filing an approved claim does not mean payment will follow as soon as the August deadline passes.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026. If the court grants final approval, payments are expected to begin approximately 105 days later, provided there are no appeals that delay the process.

That timing places the claim deadline well ahead of both final court approval and the expected distribution stage.

For subscribers considering a claim, the immediate date to watch is therefore August 30. The October hearing and payment timetable come later in the settlement process.

The key dates and numbers

Settlement amount is $7.5 million with an individual payment estimated at $92.26.

The subscription period is from February 1, 2017, until October 29, 2021. Claims can be filed before August 30, 2026, and the final court approval is expected to take place on October 15, 2026.

The final payment will depend on the total number of claims filed.
