Uber Layoffs India: Uber is preparing to cut around 200 to 250 jobs in India as part of a broader restructuring that is reshaping teams and reducing layers of management across the company.

The proposed India reductions are expected to affect employees across Uber’s People and Earners organisations. One less visible part of the restructuring is also coming into focus: some engineers working on Uber’s internal recruitment platform are reportedly among those affected.

Some employees have already received layoff communications, while further notifications are expected.

Uber Layoffs Reach India as Company Reshapes Teams and Management Layers

The India cuts form part of a significantly larger workforce reduction at Uber. Globally, the company is eliminating around 3,300 roles, representing roughly 10% of its workforce. The exercise has been described as Uber’s biggest workforce reduction since the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the centre of the restructuring is an effort to simplify how the company operates. Uber is consolidating teams and reducing management layers while directing resources towards its mobility, delivery and autonomous businesses.

The changes follow a period of expansion that added layers to Uber’s organisational structure. Company leadership has acknowledged that growth resulted in additional management levels, fragmented teams and structures that no longer matched the company’s current scale.

For India, however, Uber has stopped short of confirming the reported figure of 200 to 250 affected employees.

A company spokesperson confirmed that organisational changes are being made globally to remove layers and allow teams to move faster. Uber also acknowledged that employees in India would be leaving as part of the changes and said those affected would be supported through the transition.

The spokesperson did not disclose the precise number of jobs being eliminated in India. That makes the 200 to 250 figure a reported estimate rather than a company-confirmed headcount.

Uber also maintained that the restructuring does not represent a retreat from the Indian market. The company said its commitment to India and its ambition to continue innovating locally for riders and drivers remain unchanged. It also pointed to efforts to strengthen regional operations in India as part of its wider Asia-Pacific mobility business.

The restructuring comes as Uber places greater emphasis on autonomous mobility and robotaxis while continuing to invest in its core mobility and delivery operations.

The company has also been expanding the use of artificial intelligence in its operations. Earlier in 2026, Uber cut around 10% of its customer service workforce as it increased the use of AI in operational functions.

For the India workforce, the notable feature of the current exercise is therefore not just the expected number of departures. The reported inclusion of employees working on an internal recruitment platform, alongside cuts across People and Earners teams, shows that the restructuring is reaching corporate and internal functions as Uber works to build a leaner organisational structure.
