US President Donald Trump has publicly thanked Elon Musk for his promise to distribute SpaceX shares to American children, linking the billionaire’s announcement to the government’s Trump Accounts initiative.

The statement marks a significant development following Musk’s October 19 announcement that he intends to give one SpaceX share to every child in America in 2027.

Trump has now endorsed the proposed giveaway, describing Musk’s contribution as an example of the private sector helping American children build financial wealth.

Trump Calls Musk’s SpaceX Pledge an Act of Generosity

In a post on Truth Social, Trump thanked the SpaceX CEO for what he described as an extraordinary contribution to the country’s younger generation.

“A BIG THANK YOU to our legendary friend, @ElonMusk, for his incredible generosity in giving SpaceX Stock to millions of American children through TRUMP ACCOUNTS!” Trump wrote.

He added that the initiative reflected the original vision behind Trump Accounts, which aims to bring private-sector participation into long-term investments for children.

“This is exactly what was envisioned when we created TRUMP ACCOUNTS — Bringing together the GREAT PRIVATE SECTOR, Elon and so many more, to invest in our children, by far our greatest and most important asset, and give every American Child a piece of the American Dream,” Trump stated.

The president concluded his message by thanking Musk personally.

SpaceX Shares Could Be Linked to Trump Accounts

Trump’s statement introduces an important new element to Musk’s original proposal: the potential use of Trump Accounts to distribute the promised SpaceX stock.

These accounts are designed as investment vehicles for eligible American children, encouraging long-term asset ownership and financial participation from an early age.

By referencing the programme, Trump has provided a possible framework for how Musk’s promised shares could reach millions of beneficiaries.

However, the president’s statement does not explain the mechanics of the proposed distribution.

Musk’s Original Promise Was for 2027

On October 19, Musk announced his intention to distribute shares in SpaceX, the aerospace company that accounts for a substantial portion of his personal fortune.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote on X.

He followed the announcement with another statement: “This will be the first of many.”

The pledge came shortly after artificial intelligence company Anthropic disclosed plans to dedicate 5% of its shares to a fund supporting public-benefit initiatives.

Musk had responded to Anthropic’s announcement by suggesting that shares should instead go “directly to the public.”

His subsequent SpaceX commitment appeared to follow that approach, proposing direct ownership rather than a company-managed charitable fund.

What Is Still Unknown About the SpaceX Stock Giveaway?

Despite Trump’s public endorsement, several important financial and operational questions remain unanswered.

Neither Trump’s statement nor Musk’s original announcement specifies the monetary value of the shares each child would receive.

There is also no confirmed explanation of how SpaceX stock would be allocated, what eligibility requirements would apply, or whether recipients would face restrictions on selling their holdings.

Transferring shares to millions of individual beneficiaries could therefore involve additional legal, administrative and ownership considerations.

Trump’s Endorsement Brings New Attention to the 2027 Promise

Trump’s intervention gives Musk’s announcement a direct connection to a presidential financial initiative.

What began as a social media pledge from the SpaceX CEO has now received public support from the US president, potentially increasing expectations that the proposed giveaway will move beyond an announcement.

The next major development will be whether Musk, SpaceX or the Trump administration provides a formal plan detailing share valuations, eligibility, allocation and the timetable for transferring stock through Trump Accounts.
