₹10 Tea, ₹20 Samosa Coming Soon to Delhi-Mumbai Airport

Chennai, February 28, 2025 – Air travel in India is becoming more budget-friendly—not just in ticket prices but also airport food! After the successful launch of Udan Yatri Cafe at Kolkata Airport, Chennai Airport has joined the initiative, offering tea for just ₹10 and samosas for ₹20. The move is expected to benefit thousands of daily travelers who often struggle with overpriced airport food options.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in his tweet Said “Inaugurated the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Chennai Airport today. With this, Chennai becomes the second airport to host this first-of-its-kind ‘UDAN Yatri Cafe’, bringing affordable and quality refreshments to our passengers. This is one step towards my vision of enhancing the air travel experience for every Indian

Pocket-Friendly Prices at Airports

Airports have long been notorious for expensive food, but the Udan Yatri Cafe initiative aims to change that. Under this scheme, budget food options are made available at select airports, allowing travelers to get:

  • Tea for ₹10
  • Packaged Water for ₹10
  • Samosa for ₹20
  • Additional regional snacks (to be introduced soon)

This pricing is significantly lower than regular airport food courts, where a basic tea can cost between ₹50-₹100.

Delhi & Mumbai Next in Line

With Kolkata and Chennai airports now offering these affordable cafes, reports suggest that Delhi and Mumbai airports will soon implement similar setups. This could be a game-changer for India’s busiest airports, where passengers frequently complain about exorbitant food prices.

What Authorities & Passengers Are Saying

Government officials have welcomed the initiative, noting its contribution to making airports more inclusive. Passengers have also responded positively, sharing their experiences on social media.

“A ₹10 tea at an airport? Unbelievable! This should be the norm everywhere,” tweeted a passenger from Chennai.

Industry experts believe this move will not only benefit passengers but also force private food vendors to reconsider their high pricing strategies at airports.

Will This Extend to Railways & Metro Stations?

Due to the encouraging response, there have been talks about expanding this affordable food model to railway stations, metro stations, and bus stands. If successful, this experiment could transform how food is priced at India’s transport centers.
