Bengaluru-based edtech platform Newton School is set to receive fresh capital from Prateek Boob, co-founder of PhysicsWallah, in what appears to be an extension of its Series B round. The proposed investment comes after a long gap in fundraising for the company and signals renewed investor interest in the outcomes-focused higher education and tech training space.
The PhysicsWallah and Newton School Association
According to regulatory filings, Newton School, founded by Siddharth Maheshwari and Nishant Chandra has passed a special resolution to issue 72,738 Series B1 preference shares at an issue price of Rs 3,437 each, raising around Rs 25 crore. Based on Entrackr’s estimates, the transaction pegs the company’s valuation at about Rs 1,055 crore, or roughly $117 million. Following the allotment, Boob is expected to hold nearly 2.37% in the company.
The development is notable for two reasons. First, Newton School has not seen fresh capital come in for nearly four years. Second, the incoming investor is among the more prominent names in India’s education startup ecosystem, given Boob’s association with PhysicsWallah. While the investment is being made in a personal capacity, it still stands out at a time when education companies are being watched closely for both growth and financial discipline.
Newton School has positioned itself as a “modern neo-university,” offering industry-led tech education programmes, including a global B.Tech in Computer Science and AI, with an emphasis on hands-on learning and job readiness. That positioning has helped it build a distinct identity in a crowded edtech market where employability and outcome-based learning have become central to the pitch.
The company’s financial performance, suggests it has been improving on both scale and cost control. In the fiscal year ended March 2025, Newton School posted a 61% year-on-year rise in operating revenue to Rs 38.86 crore from Rs 24 crore in FY24.
During the same period, its losses narrowed by 40% to Rs 29.66 crore. For an edtech firm operating in a market that has become far less forgiving of aggressive cash burn, that combination of revenue growth and lower losses is likely to matter.
The company has raised around $32 million to date, including a $25 million Series B round led by Steadview Capital in April 2022, when its valuation reportedly jumped seven-fold. Before that, it had raised $5 million in Series A funding and $1.1 million in seed capital.
The fresh investment from Boob therefore adds a new chapter to Newton School’s capital journey, rather than marking an entirely new round.
The timing also draws attention because it comes as PhysicsWallah is expanding deeper into the school education segment.
The company recently acquired the underlying assets of Maker’s Heart School and is investing $10 million in its Vidyapeeth School programme, which now spans more than 39 schools. Even though Boob’s Newton School bet is personal, the move inevitably adds another layer to the evolving education landscape, where founders and operators are increasingly placing targeted bets across adjacent learning models.
