Physics Wallah names Amit Sachdeva as CFO for 2025 IPO

PhysicsWallah (PW), a rapidly growing edtech unicorn backed by Lightspeed, has taken a major step towards its planned initial public offering (IPO) in 2025 by hiring Amit Sachdeva as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With a successful track record in high-profile finance roles, Sachdeva joins PW after his tenure at Blinkit (formerly Grofers), where he played a crucial role in its ₹4,000 crore acquisition by Zomato in 2022.

Before joining PW, Sachdeva served as CFO at IT services company IGT Solutions in Gurugram and held finance leadership positions at Wipro’s digital operations and platforms division. His extensive background in finance across the tech and consumer sectors has equipped him with the expertise needed to support PW’s ambitious growth trajectory in the edtech space.

Strengthening the Financial Backbone for IPO Readiness

Sachdeva’s appointment follows PhysicsWallah’s recent $210 million funding round led by Hornbill Capital Advisers and Lightspeed Venture Partners, which pushed the company’s valuation to $2.8 billion, more than doubling its prior $1.1 billion valuation. The funding round also saw participation from existing investors GSV Ventures and WestBridge Capital.

Hornbill Capital’s Managing Partner, Manoj Thakur, brings valuable IPO experience to PhysicsWallah’s board. “Manoj has taken a lot of companies public, which attracted us towards Hornbill, and Manoj as an individual, because they are the right advisors for us to make us IPO-ready and take us public,” said PW co-founder Prateek Maheshwari in an interview with Mint. “We are strengthening our finance team and our governance processes,” Maheshwari added, underlining the importance of experienced leadership in guiding the company’s journey to becoming a public entity.

Amit Sachdeva: A Transformative Addition to PhysicsWallah

CEO Alakh Pandey expressed enthusiasm about Sachdeva’s addition to the PW team. “Amit’s experience in financial leadership and his focus on robust corporate governance will be invaluable as we continue our efforts to grow and broaden our educational impact,” Pandey stated. “His approach to finance as a transformative tool aligns with PW’s goals, and we’re happy to welcome him.”

Sachdeva’s proven track record in managing finance for large-scale tech enterprises is expected to help PhysicsWallah streamline its financial operations and reinforce governance as it prepares for the IPO. His appointment underscores PW’s commitment to achieving sustainable growth and solidifying its leadership in India’s edtech market.
