As Vice President and Head of Information Management and Digital for India and South Asia, Annapurna Vishwanathan recently joined Airbus. The new position showcases her expertise in managing intricate IT systems and implementing digital initiatives in the aviation sector.
Prior to joining Airbus, Vishwanathan was serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Cummins India since March 2021. During her tenure there, she played a key role in driving the digital transformation process of the organization. Cummins India, a top-ranking Fortune 500 company with a specialty in engine design and manufacturing, was digitally transformed end-to-end under her leadership. The transformation was aimed at making operations digital and optimizing various components to enhance business agility.
Vishwanathan will be in charge of managing the digital strategy and IT infrastructure in South Asia and India in her new role at Airbus. Her nearly two decades of experience include leadership positions at multinational companies like GE, Atos Origin, and Coca-Cola. Her most notable role was Head of Digital at Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd., where she oversaw digital strategies for a variety of departments, including sales, logistics, and manufacturing.
Her career at GE lasted over 11 years, where she contributed to technology domains like product development, ERP, applications, mergers and acquisitions, IT infrastructure, and security across seven industry verticals spanning the US, Europe, and South Asia.
Expressing her enthusiasm on LinkedIn, Vishwanathan stated, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as VP Head of IM & Digital, India and South Asia at Airbus.”
Her appointment is part of Airbus’s strategic emphasis on developing digital infrastructure and innovation in the region. Airbus, Europe’s largest aerospace company, hopes to capitalize on Vishwanathan’s extensive experience in digital transformation to advance its operational frameworks.
The move from Cummins India to Airbus demonstrates Vishwanathan’s ascent in the technology management field. Throughout her career, she has been focused on leveraging digital capabilities for business development. The action also demonstrates Airbus’s desire to make investments in capable leadership to meet the evolving digital challenges facing the aerospace sector.
