A collision involving a Rolls Royce Phantom and a BYD Sealion in Singapore left a 72-year-old woman injured, with both vehicles visibly damaged and police investigating the circumstances of the crash.
A Rolls-Royce Phantom and a BYD Sealion are two vehicles you would hardly expect to see involved in the same road accident. But on Friday afternoon, the luxury sedan and electric SUV were caught up in a collision near Clarke Quay in Singapore.
What followed was a damaged Rolls-Royce, a BYD with crumpled passenger doors and deployed airbags, and a 72-year-old woman being taken to hospital.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 pm at the junction of New Bridge Road and Carpenter Street. While photographs from the scene revealed the damage to both vehicles, the question of how the collision happened remains unanswered.
What Happened When the Rolls-Royce Phantom and BYD Sealion Collided?
Images taken after the accident showed the two vehicles with noticeably different areas of damage.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom had sustained damage to its front bumper and distinctive radiator grille. The BYD Sealion, meanwhile, had suffered considerable damage along its left side, with its passenger doors visibly crumpled.
The electric SUV’s airbags had also deployed during the incident.
The photographs offer a glimpse of the collision’s aftermath, but they do not establish how the two vehicles came into contact or which driver was responsible.
A 72-Year-Old Woman Was Taken to Hospital
Beyond the damage to the two cars, the collision left an elderly passenger requiring medical attention.
A 72-year-old woman travelling in the BYD Sealion was injured and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
According to information from police and Singapore Civil Defence Force, the woman was conscious when she was transported to the hospital.
Two other individuals were assessed for minor injuries at the scene. However, both declined hospitalisation.
Who Was Driving the Rolls-Royce and BYD?
The Rolls-Royce Phantom was being driven by a 48-year-old man, while the BYD Sealion had a 76-year-old man behind the wheel.
Both drivers are under police investigation following the incident.
It therefore remains unclear whether the accident resulted from a driving error or another factor.
Rolls-Royce vs BYD: How Safe Are They?
The crash also puts the safety of both cars in focus. While the Rolls-Royce Phantom suffered front-end damage, the BYD Sealion’s side doors were badly crumpled, and its airbags deployed. Despite the visible damage, the 72-year-old passenger was conscious when taken to hospital. However, the photographs alone cannot tell which car offered better protection or how well their safety systems performed in the crash.
