Flipkart Minutes has moved ahead of Swiggy Instamart in one of India’s most closely watched quick-commerce metrics, building a 12-store lead across the country’s top 10 cities.
The Flipkart-owned quick-commerce service had 627 dark stores across these markets as of August 2026, compared with 615 for Swiggy Instamart, according to data from CLSA. The brokerage also found that Flipkart Minutes had surpassed Instamart in pincode coverage across the same group of cities.
The narrow gap between the two companies is notable because it places Flipkart Minutes ahead of a more established quick-commerce rival while the platform continues to expand its network.
Blinkit Still Holds a Sizeable Lead
Despite the change in position between Flipkart Minutes and Instamart, Blinkit remains the largest player by dark-store count across the 10 cities tracked by CLSA.
Blinkit operates 969 dark stores, followed by Zepto, Flipkart Minutes with 627, Swiggy Instamart with 615, and BigBasket with 497. Together, the five platforms account for 3,536 dark stores across the markets included in the study.
CLSA’s comparison covers Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Amazon and JioMart were excluded from the calculations.
The numbers make the competitive picture clear. Flipkart Minutes has overtaken Instamart, but the two remain separated by only a small number of locations. Blinkit, meanwhile, continues to operate a substantially larger network across the cities covered by the report.
Bengaluru Is the Largest Dark-Store Market
Bengaluru has emerged as the biggest dark-store market among the 10 cities, with 735 stores, followed by Delhi with 531 and Hyderabad with 484.
Mumbai has 372 stores, while Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Lucknow and Ahmedabad have 365, 293, 248, 225, 146 and 137 stores, respectively.
The city-level distribution also highlights how heavily quick-commerce networks remain concentrated in major urban markets, even as companies look beyond the largest metros for their next phase of expansion.
Blinkit Leads Six Cities, Zepto Leads Four
Blinkit remains ahead of competitors across the broader network. CLSA said the platform has the highest dark-store count in six of the 10 cities, while Zepto leads in the remaining four. The report also puts Blinkit’s share at around 30% of dark stores across the top 10 cities and about 34% nationally.
That leaves Flipkart Minutes, Instamart and BigBasket competing behind the two largest networks, with Flipkart’s latest expansion changing the order in the middle of the rankings.
Flipkart Minutes Is Also Pushing Into Smaller Cities
Flipkart Minutes is not limiting its expansion to major metropolitan markets. CLSA noted that the service has increased its presence in Tier III cities over the past year, including Ara and Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
That expansion adds another dimension to the competition. The battle is no longer solely about who operates the largest network in major cities. Geographic reach, pincode coverage and the ability to establish a presence in smaller markets are becoming increasingly visible parts of the contest.
For Flipkart Minutes, moving past Instamart across the top 10 cities marks a measurable change in its position. The difference is only 12 dark stores, but in a market where companies are continuing to add locations and enter new cities, even a narrow shift can alter the competitive ranking.
Blinkit remains firmly ahead, and Zepto continues to hold a strong second position. But the latest CLSA data shows that the order behind them is changing, with Flipkart Minutes now sitting ahead of Swiggy Instamart on both dark-store count and pincode coverage across the markets tracked.
