Cristiano Ronaldo has rarely been associated with dramatic changes to his appearance, but the start of his latest chapter has brought one that is difficult to miss.

The 41-year-old footballer has traded his familiar dark hair for blonde, unveiling the new look only days after marrying longtime partner Georgina Rodríguez. The timing makes the transformation particularly striking. Ronaldo and Rodríguez held their civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on August 11, and he appeared with the new hair colour in Riyadh on August 15, just four days later.

It is a sharp contrast with the Ronaldo seen at his wedding. For the ceremony, he kept his natural hair colour and wore a light beige cotton Gucci suit. Rodríguez also chose Gucci, wearing a white silk skirt suit along with more than 250 carats of Chopard diamonds.

The change has arrived at a curious point in Ronaldo’s life, combining a new marriage, another season with Al Nassr and growing questions over just how much longer one of football’s longest careers will continue.

Christiano Ronaldo’s blonde look emerged days after the wedding

Ronaldo was seen with the blonde hairstyle while watching a football match with Rodríguez and their family in Riyadh on August 15. By August 21, the new look had followed him onto the pitch during a Saudi Pro League appearance. He was photographed with it again on August 23 during an appearance at the Esports World Cup closing ceremony in Paris.

The colour has been described as both brassy blonde and honey blonde, but either way, it represents a clear break from the darker hairstyle that has been closely associated with Ronaldo through much of his career. Another account of the transformation noted that the new shade was also visible in training photographs.

There is an interesting contrast in the timing. Ronaldo entered his wedding with the understated, familiar look people have known for years, then emerged from the celebrations with one of his most noticeable style changes.

A deliberately intimate wedding for Ronaldo and Rodríguez

The wedding itself was far more private than the scale of Ronaldo and Rodríguez’s public lives might suggest.

The couple, who share five children, announced their marriage with a photograph of their wedding bands. Details later emerged of an intimate living-room ceremony at their home.

Rodríguez explained that the smaller celebration was a conscious choice. Speaking about the wedding, she said she had once imagined castles, carriages, a long dress and a crown of diamonds, but eventually wanted something intimate with her partner and children at home.

The private ceremony also marked the couple’s 10th anniversary, although it may not be their only celebration. They are also planning a second, larger wedding involving loved ones.

Ronaldo and Rodríguez had announced their engagement on August 11, 2025, exactly a year before the date given for their 2026 civil ceremony.

The makeover arrives as Ronaldo discusses the end of his career

Beyond the wedding, Ronaldo’s new appearance comes at a significant professional moment.

He has indicated that the approaching football season could be his last. In comments attributed to a Vogue interview, Ronaldo said, “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” He also said he had his future “all mapped out.”

That wording is important. Ronaldo did not present his retirement as an absolute certainty, describing it instead as a probability. For now, the possibility of a farewell season remains just that.

He also spoke about what life after football could contain, with travel and padel among the interests mentioned as possible ways of filling the space eventually left by the game.

The conversation carries additional weight because of the sheer length of his career. Ronaldo began playing for local club Andorinha around the age of seven in 1992 before beginning his professional career with Sporting CP in August 2002. His senior professional journey has since extended across 25 seasons.

For the moment, however, retirement talk remains in the future. Ronaldo is still training, still playing and now doing so with a look that would have been hard to imagine from the photographs of his wedding only days earlier.

The blonde hair may ultimately prove to be little more than a personal style change. Yet its timing gives the image a wider significance. Ronaldo has just moved from longtime partner to husband, is entering another campaign with Al Nassr and has openly acknowledged that the closing chapter of his playing career may be approaching.

For a footballer whose appearance has remained comparatively consistent through decades of changing clubs, competitions and countries, the transformation is a small but unusually visible marker of a much bigger period of change.
