In the lush landscapes of Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, entrepreneur Ruta Kamat is building more than just a brand; she’s building a movement. As the founder of Good Graze, a natural coconut-based food company launched in November 2020, Ruta is redefining how Indians think about everyday pantry staples by combining ancestral farming techniques with modern wellness needs.
Rooted in Legacy, Grown with Purpose
Ruta started Good Graze because she wanted to bring back her family’s 170-acre, five-generation, coconut-focused farming heritage. In an interview, she remarked, “Our coconut plantations are central to my childhood memories.” Doing something that would bring me closer to my roots had always been my dream.
The company sources its coconuts from traditional Banavali and Pratap varieties, handpicked and processed sustainably in small batches. Good Graze offers clean, preservative-free alternatives for health-conscious consumers from cold-pressed virgin coconut oil to coconut sugar and flour.
Ruta Kamat: The Hands-On Entrepreneur
Ruta is a first-generation entrepreneur who built Good Graze from the ground up. In a candid LinkedIn post, she said:
“In the early days of building my D2C brand, I focused on growth. Growth meant talking to every customer personally, packing every order by hand, reinvesting every rupee into the business, and saying no to short-term hacks. It wasn’t fast. It wasn’t flashy. But it built a strong foundation.”
Her passion for clean eating stems from personal health struggles, which made her rethink processed food.
A Startup with Soul
Good Graze distinguishes itself with its genuine commitment to sustainability and community development. The company honours the padekars’ heritage as coconut climbers by employing local workers and recreating traditional plucking practices.
With export plans in the works and growing popularity among urban Indian wellness lovers, Ruta sees Good Graze as a global ambassador for India’s produce.
Vision for the Future
Ruta says that Good Graze is a movement that promotes better eating and sustainable living rather than just a brand. “My relationship with food has always been bitter-sweet,” she says. Ignoring the drawbacks, this battle has shown me what “eating well” actually means.
Through Good Graze, Ruta Kamat delivers quality products and fosters a community that values authenticity, sustainability, and well-being.
