BonV Aero, a Bhubaneswar-based drone startup, has made a historic entry into the US defence market. The startup has secured a coveted spot in the I2A (India to America) Launchpad programme, marking a new era of collaboration between Indian innovation and American defence technology.
A Breakthrough Achievement
Founded in 2021, BonV Aero specialises in battery-powered, autonomous drone systems for delivering vital supplies in hazardous conditions. The startup is one of only two Indian businesses selected for the prestigious I2A program jointly operated by FedTech and Indus Bridge Ventures. The inclusion makes potential collaborations with the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Defense (DoD) possible.
“We are set to visit the United States in May to finalise key Memoranda of Understanding and identify testing facilities for our UAV technology,” said Satyabrata Satapathy, CEO of BonV Aero. “This achievement is not just a victory for our company but also a proud moment for Odisha and India, showcasing our innovative capabilities on a global stage.”

Unmatched Technological Prowess
BonV Aero’s cutting-edge logistics drones have already set a world record by carrying 30-kilogram payloads at 19,024 feet in the Himalayas, supporting the Indian Army. The startup’s commitment to Indigenous manufacturing and supply chain purity has been central to its success, with the firm stressing that its drones contain no Chinese components at all, a critical consideration for defence use worldwide.
The company’s drones are now in the process of obtaining certification under the US Green UAS and Blue UAS programmes, highlighting their cybersecurity and mission readiness. “No Indian UAV company has achieved this certification yet,” added Satapathy.
A Vision for the Future
Founded by six entrepreneurs, including Gaurav Acha, BonV Aero has the mission of solving logistical issues in defense, disaster relief, and healthcare. In the future, the startup intends to build drones with a payload of 50 kg at 18,000 feet, with goals down the line of scaling to 500 kg payloads for 300 km distances. This advancement could transform long-range logistics and inter-city mobility through unmanned aerial systems.
“We are tackling universal challenges in mid-mile and last-mile logistics,” said Baibhav Patel, Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager. “Our vision is to enhance supply chain resilience while operating from Bhubaneswar, proving that innovation knows no geographical boundaries.”
This significant development not only demonstrates Odisha’s spirit of entrepreneurship but also India’s expanding presence in the global aerospace industry.
