Tesla has opened reservations for its redesigned Roadster in India, with production targeted for 2028 and initial deliveries expected to be limited to left-hand-drive models. The company has also introduced a complimentary Acceleration Boost for its six-seat Model Y L, reducing its claimed 0-100 km/h time to 4.5 seconds without affecting its stated 681 km WLTP range.

The two developments give Tesla’s India lineup a new performance-focused offering while strengthening the appeal of its existing electric SUV range. However, the Roadster’s reservation amounts are not final prices, and its initial left-hand-drive configuration could limit its suitability for Indian roads.

Tesla Roadster Reservations Open in India

The redesigned Tesla Roadster is now open for reservations in India and select other markets, with production targeted for 2028. Its design draws inspiration from the SR-71 and F-35 aircraft, while the vehicle also incorporates SpaceX components.

Tesla has positioned the Roadster as a high-performance electric car, with performance ambitions that go beyond its Plaid models. However, production specifications and the final offering remain subject to confirmation.

The first production models are expected to feature left-hand drive. Their availability in individual markets will depend on regional legal requirements, an important consideration for India, where vehicles are generally configured for right-hand drive.

Roadster Reservation Amount Starts at ₹50.06 Lakh

Tesla has listed two Roadster reservation options for Indian buyers: the Performance variant at ₹50.06 lakh and the Thrust variant at ₹2.50 crore.

Customers are required to make an initial payment of ₹5.01 lakh, with the remaining amount due within 10 days. These figures represent reservation-related amounts rather than confirmed final vehicle prices.

The company has also outlined a Rocket variant featuring proposed flight capability. Access to this version is invite-only, and it is not approved for public road use. Its proposed capabilities should therefore be distinguished from the specifications of the road-going versions.

With production still targeted for 2028, the final specifications, pricing and availability of the different Roadster variants remain subject to confirmation.

Tesla Model Y L Gets Free Acceleration Boost

While the Roadster remains a future product, Tesla has introduced an immediate performance upgrade for the six-seat Model Y L in India.

The complimentary software-based Acceleration Boost allows the electric SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Tesla has retained the vehicle’s stated WLTP range of 681 km alongside the upgrade.

The Model Y L is priced at ₹61.99 lakh in India. Buyers looking for a five-seat option can also consider the standard Model Y, which is priced at ₹50.89 lakh.

Tesla has listed financing options starting at ₹49,990 for the Model Y L and ₹39,990 for the five-seat Model Y under a seven-year step-up EMI plan. The monthly payments provide an alternative purchasing route for customers considering the company’s electric SUVs.

The complimentary upgrade adds a performance benefit without requiring buyers to move to a different vehicle. For customers already considering the Model Y L, the improved acceleration could make the six-seat SUV a more attractive option.

Tesla Expands Its Indian Charging Network

Tesla’s India operations currently include 20 Supercharger stalls and 28 Destination Charger stalls. The company plans to add three more charging sites by the end of 2026.

Home charging is also available across 23 states, giving customers another way to charge their vehicles outside the public network.

Both Model Y variants are included in Tesla’s Refer and Earn programme, which offers credits and discounts. Together, the charging infrastructure and referral programme form part of the company’s broader effort to support its growing presence in India’s premium electric vehicle market.

What Tesla’s Latest Moves Mean for India

Tesla’s latest developments address two different stages of its India strategy. The Roadster reservations offer prospective buyers an early route to secure a future performance car, while the Model Y L’s complimentary acceleration upgrade provides an immediate improvement to an existing product.

The Roadster’s left-hand-drive limitation remains a significant consideration for Indian customers, and its 2028 production target leaves time for specifications and market availability to change. Its reservation amounts should also not be mistaken for confirmed final prices.

For now, the Model Y range remains the more immediate option for customers looking to buy a Tesla in India. With a free acceleration upgrade for the Model Y L and additional charging sites planned by the end of 2026, the company is continuing to develop its existing offering while preparing for the Roadster’s eventual arrival.
