Rahul Kanwal Quits India Today: Buzz Around NDTV Role

Rahul Kanwal, the Executive Director of Business Today and News Director at TV Today Network has formally announced his departure from the India Today Group following more than 20 years of devoted service.

In an internal communication to the India Today Group, Vice-Chairperson Kalli Purie thanked Kanwal for his outstanding contributions over the years, pointing out his contribution towards the editorial strategy and developing strong news teams. Purie noted the difficulties accompanying change but maintained that change is the media’s nature.

Rahul Kanwal made his space in the news industry by establishing shows like ‘News Track‘. His role in taking the India Today group forward cannot be denied. His resignation is indeed the end of an era.

Industry insiders are speculating about Kanwal’s next course of action. According to sources, Rahul Kanwal is expected to begin a new chapter in his remarkable career by joining NDTV in a senior editorial capacity. If confirmed, this move follows the recent trend of several prominent journalists joining NDTV, including Shiv Aroor, who recently took on the role of Managing Editor at the channel.

Kanwal’s departure comes amid a phase of strategic realignments within the Indian news media industry, particularly at NDTV, following its acquisition by the Adani Group in 2022. Kanwal’s possible shift to NDTV continues his powerful presence in Indian news television.

The media community waits for word on Kanwal’s next move, but one thing is certain, his contribution to Indian journalism will last, no matter what platform.
