New Delhi: Electric mobility startup EMotorad has appointed former CARS24 executive Himanshu Ratnoo as its co-founder, adding a senior operator to its leadership team at a time when the company is looking to deepen its presence across India and overseas markets.

Ratnoo joins EMotorad after spending more than five years at CARS24, where he led the company’s India business. He had stepped down from that role in March this year. At EMotorad, he is expected to focus on business growth, market expansion and strengthening day-to-day operations as the company scales its electric mobility portfolio.

Founded in 2020 by Kunal Gupta, EMotorad builds electric bicycles and mobility products for both domestic and international markets. The company sells its products across India and global markets including Europe, Japan and Australia.

The appointment is not just a leadership addition. For EMotorad, it signals a sharper push toward execution, distribution and scale. Electric bicycle companies in India are still operating in a market that is growing but remains competitive, with consumer awareness, pricing, after-sales service and product reliability playing a crucial role in adoption.

EMotorad has been widening its product portfolio and distribution network over the past few years. The startup has raised around $22.5 million in funding so far from investors including Panthera Growth Partners, Alteria Capital and Green Frontier Capital.

Its largest disclosed round came in November 2023, when it raised $20 million. In April 2024, former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni also invested an undisclosed amount in the company and joined as its brand ambassador.

The company competes with players such as Hero Lectro, Nexzu Mobility and Toutche in India’s electric bicycle segment.

Ratnoo’s entry comes at a phase when EMotorad appears to be moving beyond product visibility and celebrity-backed branding into a more operations-heavy growth phase. His experience of running India operations at CARS24 may help the company as it looks to strengthen its sales engine, improve execution and build a wider market footprint.

For India’s e-bike space, the larger test remains simple: can companies convert curiosity into repeatable consumer demand? EMotorad’s latest leadership move suggests it wants to answer that question with a stronger business playbook.
