Zomato races ahead with 15-minute food delivery service

Zomato is revolutionising the food delivery game with the rollout of its 15-minute food delivery service, intensifying competition in the burgeoning quick food delivery market. Though the company hasn’t made it official yet, the service is already functional in the first few select locations of major cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru.

15-Minute delivery: New space
A separate tab for “15-minute delivery” features on the new add-on in the Zomato app. This tab will allow you to view a limited selection of quick-to-make and ready-to-eat dishes from participating restaurants. To promote speedy deliveries, Zomato, just like Swiggy’s Bolt, will be adopting a hyper-local approach and limiting deliveries to restaurants within a two-kilometer radius.

Competition heats up in the quick commerce space
Zomato’s entrance into hyperfast delivery aligns with the coming race toward the ferocious focus on quick delivery in the industry. It comes shortly after Blinkit, the quick commerce unit of Zomato, announced Bistro, delivering healthy snacks, juices, and meals in record time.

Swiggy, Zomato’s fiercest competitor, launched the Bolt service in October 2024. According to the company, 5% of its food deliveries now fall under this rapid delivery umbrella. Similarly, Zepto has launched Zepto Cafe to meet the demand for ultra-fast food deliveries.

A race for faster delivery
The quick commerce sector is buzzing with new entrants and initiatives. Ola Dash, which is a 10-minute food delivery service, has rolled out from Bengaluru to other parts of India. Reliance is also contemplating entry with JioMart for 30-minute delivery services. Also, fashion e-commerce giant Myntra has piloted a quick deliveryy service for select brands in Bengaluru.

Stock market reactions and the future
Though bursting with buzz, Zomato’s stocks dipped to a low, trading at ₹247.05 (down by 2.16%) on Wednesday morning. The market has been eager to see what happens next.
