India’s fresh fruit and veggie trade has grown a lot in the last five years. It now reaches 123 countries around the globe. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry says this growth comes from the government’s and exporters’ smart moves.
In the last three years, India has exported fresh goods to 17 new places, such as Brazil, Georgia, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and the Czech Republic. This step is part of India’s rise in the world market for fresh food.
Steps to help the rise
The ministry has pointed out many things that helped this big change. These steps include participating in trade shows, having talks to enter new markets, and setting up meetings between buyers and sellers. These actions have helped Indian exporters find new markets and grow their trade.
To keep this growth going, the Agriculture and Processed Foods Export Promotion Scheme (APEDA) gives help to exporters. This plan is meant to boost the export of key farm goods, like fruits and veggies, from 2021 to 2026.
Big growth in exports
As per the ministry, the amount of fruit and veggie exports grew by 47.3% from 2019–2020 to 2023–2024. At the same time, the worth of these exports has jumped by 41.5%. This shows that both the amount and value are up.
Important states for fruit and veggie production in India include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Karnataka.
New market chances
India’s Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare are working hard to find new markets. In the last three years, India has opened doors for goods like pomegranate seeds in Australia, the US, Serbia, and New Zealand, and fresh bananas and baby corn in Canada.
The coming times look bright as India keeps growing in global markets, making fresh food a key part of exports.
