Airbound, a startup from Bengaluru, has attracted a lot of attention after their seed funding round raised $8.65 million, thus marking a major milestone in the drone logistics sector in India, which is changing rapidly. Lachy Groom, co-founder of Physical Intelligence, was in charge of the fundraising round that brought in money not only from him but also from Humba Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and senior executives from Tesla, SpaceX, and Anduril. The move to invest is a signal of the strong confidence that international as well as local investors have in Airbound’s ground-breaking drone delivery solution.
Naman Pushp founded Airbound in 2023 and the company is engaged in the creation of the autonomous delivery systems by using the sophisticated blended-wing-body (BWB) aircraft. The aircraft are thus a combination of the efficiency of fixed-wing flight and the vertical takeoff and landing features, unlike the traditional drones. The company has a unique carbon-fiber manufacturing process that enables them to produce relatively light drones that have a carrying capacity of 1 to 1.5 kilograms, thus making the delivery faster and more dependable.
Redefining Logistics Across Sectors
The goal of Airbound is to transform the transport environment through the provision of speedy, affordable, and easy-to-reach deliveries in areas with poor or no existing infrastructural networks. Although the startup has been giving priority to medical and essential deliveries, its future outlook reaches beyond the healthcare sector into e-commerce, food, and relief deliveries in isolated places.
The freshly raised capital will primarily support scaling manufacturing, refining drone technology, and expanding operational reach. The company plans to prepare for wider market adoption by 2026, with eventual ambitions to extend operations to the United States within the next three years. Discussions with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation are already underway to secure approvals for expanded drone operations.

Backed by Tesla Leadership
Airbound’s seed funding round drew notable attention from senior leaders at Tesla, signaling strong confidence in the startup’s technology and vision. Tesla executives, known for pioneering innovations in electric vehicles and autonomous systems, saw potential in Airbound’s blended-wing-body drones to reshape logistics in India and beyond. Their participation not only brings capital but also strategic insight and credibility, positioning Airbound among a select group of startups recognized by global tech trailblazers. With backing from Tesla leadership, the company gains access to a network of expertise in automation, engineering, and scaling cutting-edge technology, strengthening its path toward revolutionizing delivery solutions.
Pilot Partnership with Narayana Health
Just to let the world know how their technology is very useful, Airbound recently started a three-month test project with Narayana Health which is a healthcare chain in India. In the course of this experiment, Airbound drones are going to make ten medical deliveries daily carrying blood samples, diagnostic kits, and other necessary materials from one center to another.
Dr. Devi Shetty, founder and chairman of Narayana Health, highlighted the partnership’s potential: “This collaboration allows us to explore innovative technology that can enhance the speed and reliability of medical deliveries, ultimately supporting better patient care.” The initiative not only tests Airbound’s drones in a highly demanding environment but also serves as a model for efficient, life-saving logistics solutions in healthcare.
Driving Cost Efficiency and Accessibility
It is in the very center of Airbound’s vision to bring delivery costs down to a minimum of nearly zero, which would allow a transport system that would be both fast and reliable, without taking into account the location. Using the technology of autonomous drones, the startup is targeting to go beyond the restrictions of typical logistics networks, especially in remote or less-served areas. In this way, the company can disrupt not only supply chains in India but also global supply chains, consequently, making the availability of basic needs in those local communities, who are often hindered by the logistics of the region, easier.
Airbound has the right mix of about 50 professionals, who as a group, bring engineering expertise and operational strategy for the design of a drone delivery ecosystem that is both scalable and sustainable. The Narayana Health pilot will set the stage for later implementation across sectors, by streamlining the activities and efficiency levels.
A Glimpse into the Future
Airbound’s journey represents a broader shift in logistics, where innovation and technology converge to solve real-world challenges. By concentrating on autonomous drones which are light in weight, inexpensive, and multi-purpose, the firm is making a statement that it is among the first movers in the delivery environment of next-generation India.
By Airbound expanding its activities and covering more areas, the startup is going beyond the physical delivery of parcels, essentially transmitting a futuristic idea of a more efficient, reliable, and smart logistics sector.
The company is currently reaping perks of the investment, enjoying the smooth running of the on-ground projects, thus poised to revolutionize not only the Indian but also the global transport system.
