It’s no secret that India is suffering with extreme heat issues and harsh summers. Air conditioners, while effective, are not everyone’s cup of tea due to their high costs and energy consumption. This problem calls for a smart solution. Meet Ambiator a company on a mission to cool the world without warming the planet.
Ambiator Private Limited, a Hyderabad-based startup is quietly revolutionizing the Indian cooling sector. Founded in 2022, Ambiator is on a mission to provide sustainable, energy saving cooling that does not hurt the planet as well as the pocket.
The Genesis of Ambiator
Ambiator’s story is embedded in decades of experience in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry. Co-founders Tiger Aster who is a second-generation entrepreneur and climate advocate, and Jeeten Desai (JD), with a background in real estate and consulting, joined hands after a meeting at a demonstration site. Their shared vision: to make cooling technologies that are sustainable, accessible, and affordable for all.
The journey from concept to market-ready product was not easy. Initial prototypes were bulky and challenging to install, but after 2.5 years of relentless R&D, Ambiator launched its flagship 5TR sustainable cooling system, ready for mass manufacturing and commercial deployment.
The Technology: Dew Point Regenerative Cooling
Unlike conventional air conditioners that rely on harmful refrigerants and consume large amounts of electricity, Ambiator’s solution is built around advanced evaporative cooling and Dew Point Regenerative Technology. This approach:
- Uses water-saturated surfaces to cool air naturally, reducing energy consumption.
- Consumes just 1 kWh for 5 tonnes of cooling, making it suitable for solar power and a viable NetZero solution.
- Removes harmful refrigerants, lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
- Uses IoT devices for smart water management.
- Utilizes recycled and recyclable materials to further minimize its environmental footprint.
Ambiator 5TR

Ambiator 5TR is an air-cooling system designed to keep spaces comfortably cool while using far less energy than traditional air conditioners. Instead of relying on chemical refrigerants and energy dependent compressors, Ambiator uses a smart combination of natural cooling techniques. It pulls in fresh air from outside, cools it down using water and clever heat exchange technology, and delivers crisp, fresh air inside.
Ambiator’s 5TR uses about 80% less electricity, which means electricity bill could shrink dramatically. Plus, it doesn’t use harmful chemicals, so it’s much better for the environment.
On top of that, it’s designed to work well with solar power, houses will solar panels can run it almost cost-free during the day.
Market Opportunity and Business Model
India’s air conditioning market is expanding at a CAGR of 15.8%, with projections suggesting that by 2050, the country’s cooling needs will require electricity surpassing Africa’s current total consumption. Yet, only 8% of Indian households currently have air conditioning, leaving vast room for growth.
Ambiator operates on a B2B model, targeting commercial and industrial clients. Its early adopters include Mahindra LifeSpaces, Selco Foundation, Brigade Group, Mapro, and RN Filters. Thirteen units have been sold so far, each priced at approximately ₹3 lakh, with more contracts in the row. The company is also building a network of channel partners across key states to scale distribution.
Growth, Recognition, and Future Plans
Ambiator’s innovation has not gone unnoticed. The startup was among the winners at Start-up Express International 2023, recognized for its potential to transform the global cooling landscape. It has also secured investment through the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme.
Looking ahead, Ambiator plans to launch a second product, Space Cool 1.5 TR, designed to operate efficiently in hot, dry, humid, and cold conditions—broadening its appeal across diverse climates.
