Indian celebrity divorces are mostly accompanied by large alimony settlements, marking changes in financial affluence and modern marital lifestyles. The latest case in point is that of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal’s divorce from dancer-choreographer Dhanashree Verma. The Bombay High Court hastened their case, waiving the six-month waiting period. Chahal was to settle ₹4.75 crore to Verma, of which ₹2.37 crore has been settled and the remainder will be settled on finalization.
Famous Alimony Settlements:

• Gautam Singhania – Nawaz Modi Singhania (₹8,700 crore, 2023)
  The divorce of Gautam Singhania and Nawaz Modi Singhania has been bitter. Nawaz had demanded 75% of her ₹11,600 crore assets in dowry for having suffered domestic abuse. Singhania proposed a family trust instead of cash payment, which was rejected.
  
• Hrithik Roshan – Sussanne Khan (₹380 crore, 2014)
  Actor Hrithik Roshan and interior designer Sussanne Khan terminated their 14-year marriage on amicable terms, settling for a payment of ₹380 crore. They are still co-parenting their two sons.
  
• Samantha Ruth Prabhu – Naga Chaitanya (₹200 crore given, 2021)
  Samantha refused an offer of ₹200 crore as alimony after she split with Naga Chaitanya. The duo remained tight-lipped about the split.
  
• Aamir Khan – Reena Dutta (₹50 crore, 2002)
  Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s divorce was estimated to have cost ₹50 crore. The former couples were amicable and co-parented the children.
  
• Aditya Chopra – Payal Khanna (₹50 crore in 2009)
  Director-producer Aditya Chopra’s divorce was preceded by his own marriage to actress Rani Mukerji. Stories mentioned an alimony of ₹50 crore.
  
• Sanjay Dutt – Rhea Pillai (₹20 crore worth of property, 2008)
  Sanjay Dutt’s second divorce was settled with two sea-facing Bandra flats worth ₹20 crore.
  
• Prabhu Deva – Ramlath (₹20–25 crore, 2011)
  Alimony from choreographer-director Prabhu Deva consisted of several properties in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh, two vehicles, and money, totalling ₹20–25 crore.
  
• Karisma Kapoor – Sunjay Kapur (₹14 crore + property, 2016)
  Divorce settlement for actress Karisma Kapoor also consisted of a Mumbai property and ₹14 crore worth of bonds for the upkeep of their children.
  
• Malaika Arora – Arbaaz Khan (₹10–15 crore, 2017)
  There was a report that Malaika demanded ₹10–15 crore of alimony for 18 years of marriage but later refuted the amount.
  
• Saif Ali Khan – Amrita Singh (₹5 crore + monthly maintenance, 2004)
  Saif Ali Khan paid ₹5 crore in instalments and ₹1 lakh as monthly maintenance as child support.

These celebrity splits reflect the money involved in India’s high-society splits. Though some of them were on friendly terms, others were followed by lengthy court cases, which only reflect the high monetary implication of marriages falling apart in India’s upper-class society.
