ReNew Power to Invest ₹22,000 Cr in AP’s Largest Green Project

ReNew Power, one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, has announced a monumental investment of ₹22,000 crore to establish a hybrid renewable energy project in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. This program will become India’s largest single-site renewable energy complex, will help the country achieve its clean energy goals.

Project Overview

The integrated facility will encompass:

  • 1.8 GW of solar power generation
  • 1 GW of wind energy capacity
  • 2 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Clean electricity produced by the initiative will be usable for up to four hours each day. This will assist meet the growing demand for electricity and increase the stability of the power grid. A 415 MWh battery energy storage system, 250 MW of wind power, and 587 MWp of solar electricity will make up the project’s initial phase. Power purchase agreements are already in place.

Strategic Significance

This investment marks ReNew’s comeback to Andhra Pradesh after a hiatus brought on by previous policy uncertainties. Restoring investor confidence was largely dependent on the state’s October 2024 implementation of the Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) policy, which offers single-window clearances and ensures contract fidelity.

Andhra Pradesh has become a booming centre for renewable energy thanks to its proactive strategy, which was spearheaded by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.   The government’s dedication is demonstrated by its goal of building 72 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029.

Economic and Employment Impact

Covering 2,300 acres in Bethapalli village, Gooty mandal, this project is expected to create around 10,000 jobs. This development will not only boost the local economy but also provide significant opportunities for youth and farmers in the region.

Contribution to National Goals

India’s overarching objective of producing 500 GW of electricity from non-fossil fuels by 2030 is in line with ReNew’s project. By integrating solar, wind, and battery storage, the project demonstrates the kind of creative solutions required to meet the nation’s clean energy targets.

ReNew Power’s ₹22,000 crore investment in Andhra Pradesh marks a significant step forward for India’s renewable energy growth.
