Google announced Preeti Lobana has been elevated to the position of Country Manager and Vice President for India. Lobana has been with Google for over eight years, during which she led several customer-focused initiatives. She expressed her gratitude and excitement in a LinkedIn post, saying this new role marks the beginning of an important chapter in her career.
“After eight-plus incredible years at Google, I’m thrilled to step into this role. I look forward to advancing customer-centric solutions in India’s vibrant digital ecosystem,” Lobana stated.
Her promotion comes at a critical time for Google India. Five months ago, Sanjay Gupta, the former Country Head, was promoted to President of the Asia-Pacific region. As Lobana steps into this position, she will collaborate with Roma Datta Chobey, who served as interim Country Manager and continues as Managing Director for Digital Native Industries. Together, they aim to strengthen Google’s position in India’s digital market.
India’s role in the global digital landscape has expanded rapidly, as recent reports show that the country has surpassed the US in AI mobile app downloads. By August 2024, downloads in India crossed 2.2 billion, making up 21% of global AI app downloads.
Sanjay Gupta expressed confidence in Lobana’s leadership. He emphasised that her expertise would deepen Google’s engagement in India. According to Gupta, initiatives like Gemini AI advancements will drive digital inclusion and open new economic opportunities across the nation.
Preeti Lobana’s journey with Google began in 2016 as Director for APAC, Customer Experience. She quickly climbed the ranks, becoming Senior Director for Ads Customer Care and Vice President for Publishers, Partners, and Ads Content Teams at gTech. Her impressive career spans over 20 years, including leadership roles at NatWest Group, Standard Chartered Bank, and American Express.
Preeti Lobana’s appointment highlights Google’s focus on India’s growing digital market. Her leadership and experience will help the company navigate opportunities in AI and innovation, strengthening its presence in the country.
