State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has launched a whole range of new services and plans that will deepen telecommunications in the country. Announced on Tuesday, the list of innovations ranges from spam blockers to automation of the SIM kiosk and direct-to-device connectivity solutions.
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched seven new services at a launch ceremony. “BSNL has showcased its efforts towards getting better convenience for its customers and greater operational efficiency.” The spam-blocking solution is one of the key offers wherein it promises that phishing attempts as well as malicious SMS would be automatically filtered out before reaching the user, thus creating an altogether safer environment for communication.
Automated SIM kiosks can be introduced for customers to buy, upgrade, port, or replace SIM cards on a real-time basis—24/7. These kiosks will come with payment mechanisms through UPI and QR codes, and KYC processes will be integrated in an effortless manner. The interface will also be multilingual.
BSNL also unveiled its first direct-to-device connectivity solution, which combines satellite and terrestrial mobile networks. This is especially useful in emergencies or rather un-equipped locations where constant connectivity, including UPI payment, can be made even at very less infrastructure places.
BSNL has been a flagship of the country, symbolizing the aspirations and expectations of every citizen of our country,” said Minister Scindia. He still had confidence in BSNL’s ability to navigate an extremely competitive landscape and boldly embrace new challenges.
In the last update, he further added that BSNL has developed its own 4G telecom stack, which can migrate from 4G to 5G technology. According to him, this is a significant achievement for India. BSNL will have 100,000 sites of 4G by midway through next year, with plans to migrate some of them to 5G in the same period.
Finally, Scindia wished that BSNL would remain at the forefront of innovation, benefiting the interests of the people and advancing the cause of nation-building.
