South Korea’s Industry Minister, Ahn Duk-Geun, said that they would use artificial intelligence (AI) to deal with big problems like low birth rates and issues in the industry. At a talk with AI experts in Seoul, Ahn stressed the need for quick use of AI tools to keep the nation strong and competitive.
Facing industry and population issues
“South Korean firms are up against local and global problems, such as a shrinking population, more tech competition, and too much supply of goods,” Ahn noted. He pointed out that using AI is not a choice anymore; it is a must for shaping the future of the nation’s work sector
Country’s focus on AI growth
To help AI grow, the government will change rules in power, finance, and more areas. Ahn shared plans to make a power system that supports AI, set up money for AI growth, and change laws to help create a better business space.
Main projects to lift AI sector
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy shared key plans, such as:
Making a public-private team to back smart production lines.
Building spots to test and create humanoid robots.
Improving tools for self-driving cars and robot ships.
South Korea’s older society
With its very low birth rates, South Korea is now in the “super-aged” group, where 20 percent of its people are 65 or older. This change in age makes it clear that there is a need for AI-led ways to keep the economy strong.
Signs of good news in birth rate rise
Even with issues, there are some good signs. In October 2024, South Korea saw the quickest rise in births in 14 years, with 21,398 babies born, which is a 13.4 percent rise from the same time last year.
South Korea’s smart moves in AI aim to solve industry issues and lessen the effects of its ageing society, creating a path for a better and more lasting future.
