Noida International Airport joins UN global compact, strengthening sustainability

Noida International Airport (NIA) has officially joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s most prominent voluntary corporate sustainability initiative. By becoming a member of this global network, NIA intensified its pledge to align its operations with the UNGC’s Ten Principles, which emphasize critical areas such as human rights, labor standards, environmental stewardship, and anti-corruption measures. This strategic move places NIA at the forefront of a global effort to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A global commitment to responsible business

The UN Global Compact was launched in 2000 and brings together more than 15,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories from over 160 countries. NIA’s membership shows its commitment to responsible business practices, aligning its vision and strategy with those of the world’s leading sustainability-driven organizations. By joining the UNGC, NIA aims to encourage meaningful impact and further its journey towards achieving ambitious sustainability goals.

CEO’s statement on sustainability goals

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, highlighted the arrangement between NIA’s sustainability objectives and the principles of the UNGC. “Joining the United Nations Global Compact is a natural extension of our commitment to building a world-class airport that operates with sustainability at its core,” said Schnellmann. “We are proud to be part of a global movement that calls for responsible business action, and we will continue to integrate sustainable practices across every aspect of our development.”

Commitment to transparent progress and net zero emissions

As a UNGC member, NIA has committed to transparent reporting on its progress across several important areas, including environmental responsibility, labor relations, and anti-corruption practices. This commitment has shaped the airport’s approach to selecting its planning and design teams, construction partners, and concessionaires, all of whom are aligned with NIA’s focus on sustainable design and operations. An important element of NIA’s sustainability vision is its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

NIA’s membership in the UNGC will allow it to contribute to and benefit from a global network of best practices in corporate sustainability, making it an essential player in the aviation sector’s shift towards a sustainable future.
