Indichip plans semiconductor facility in Andhra Pradesh

Indichip Semiconductors has partnered with Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology (YMTL) to sign an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government. This group aims to build a new plant to make semiconductors in the state.

A collaborative leap with Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology

With a massive investment of INR 14,000 crore, the new plant will make Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips. These chips are key for green tech like electric cars and solar power. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh shared his joy online, saying how important this work is. He stated, “This top-notch plant will focus on making silicon carbide (SiC) chips, which are key for green techs like electric cars and solar power.”

Strategic location and support from the Andhra Pradesh government

The plant will go up at the Orvakal mega industrial hub in Kurnool. The state government has promised to give land and support to help build the site. The minister also said the state is all in on this project to help make India a firm name in the global semiconductor field.

Expansion plans to meet growing demand

The plant will start with a goal of 10,000 wafers each month and hopes to ramp up to 50,000 wafers per month in two to three years. This move shows the rising need for semiconductor parts in India and elsewhere.

India’s Semiconductor scene gets stronger

This news fits the Indian government’s plan to boost its semiconductor field. New steps include land deals and cash support under the $10 billion Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to draw big names in semiconductors. Big projects like the US-based Micron plant in Gujarat and Kaynes Semicon’s OSAT plant with a planned INR 3,300 crore investment are all part of this push.

New chances for startups in chip design

India’s chip scene is also seeing more action from startups. Fabless startup Mindgrove Technologies just got $8 million in Series A funding. In the same way, Netrasemi raised INR 10 crore in Pre-Series A funding, showing a lively scene that is catching global eyes.

With Indichip’s new plant in Andhra Pradesh, India is ready to shine as an essential part of the world’s semiconductor industry.
