Chinese multinational Hisense Group is reportedly in discussions with Epack Durable (EDPL), an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), to acquire a minority stake in one of its step-down subsidiaries.
In a regulatory clarification on Tuesday, Epack Durable confirmed the preliminary nature of the discussions, stating, “We would like to inform you that business discussions are currently in the preliminary stage.”
The Greater Noida-based company assured that it would disclose further details as required under applicable laws when necessary.
Epack durable: India’s key ODM player
Epack Durable is India’s second-largest Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for room air conditioners (RAC), based on the total number of indoor and outdoor units produced.
Founded in 2002, Epack manufactures room air-conditioners and small household appliances (SHA) such as water dispensers, induction cooktops, and mixer grinders. Its manufacturing operations span facilities in Dehradun, Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), and the recently inaugurated plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
Sri City expansion
The Sri City facility, launched in FY24, has boosted Epack’s manufacturing capacity by approximately 50%. The site produces key components like indoor and outdoor air-conditioning units, plastic moulding, sheet metal, copper tubing, heat exchangers, and cross-flow fans.
Financial performance
Epack Durable, which was listed on the NSE and BSE earlier this year, reported revenue of ₹1,419.6 crore in FY24. Room air conditioners and their components accounted for 81% of the company’s revenue.
This potential partnership with Hisense reflects the growing global interest in India’s electronics and appliance manufacturing sector.
