Twitter’s famous blue bird logo has been sold at an auction for $34,375 (about ₹28.5 lakh). The auction was held by RR Auction, which deals in rare and collectable items.
The bird logo, once an iconic part of Twitter’s identity, was removed from its former headquarters in San Francisco after Elon Musk acquired the company in 2022 and rebranded it as “X.” The massive structure weighed 254 kilograms and measured 12 feet by 9 feet (about 3.7m x 2.7m).
Though RR Auction confirmed the sale, they did not disclose the identity of the buyer.
This is not the first time Musk has auctioned Twitter memorabilia. Office equipment, kitchen items, and other retired signage from the company have also been auctioned off previously, as part of Musk’s constant attempts to redefine the image of the site.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, bought Twitter for $44 billion and has since announced plans to turn it into an “everything app” under the new name X. In 2023, Musk hinted at the company slowly saying goodbye to the Twitter brand, including the logo.
Meanwhile, reports earlier this year claimed Musk was in talks with investors to raise another $44 billion for his ventures. This includes his AI startup xAI, which he says aims to “understand the true nature of the universe.”
The sale of the Twitter bird signifies the end of an era, as the platform keeps transforming under Musk’s vision.
