Meet Akash Bobba: The 22-year-old whiz kid shaking up Elon Musk’s DOGE

Akash Bobba is a 22-year-old engineer from India who is now in the middle of a big talk about Elon Musk’s new agency called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk started this group to make the government work better. The group is now in trouble for hiring six young engineers, ages 19 to 24 and giving them access to key government systems.

A star born in tech

Bobba has moved up fast in the tech world. He finished school at UC Berkeley in a well-known program for Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MET). He has had great jobs early in his life. Working at big names like Meta, Palantir, and Bridgewater taught him a lot about AI, data, and finances. His skills and way of solving tough problems make him special.

Old schoolmates remember how smart he is. One story shared by many shows how he fixed a whole project in one night after a friend messed up and deleted it just before time ran out.

Worries about security and the DOGE talk

Even with all his skills, Bobba’s new job at DOGE has caused worries. Some say it is not wise to hire young folks with no past in government and give them high-level security passes. Reports say at least four of the new DOGE engineers, Bobba included, now have top-level access to federal IT systems.

The issue got worse when DOGE staff tried to look at secret data at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Security staff who stopped the move were put on leave, which made people question whether the agency was safe.

Supporters and critics clash

Fans of DOGE see it as a brave way to fix old government systems. They think new talent like Bobba can bring fresh ideas and speed to a slow system. On the other hand, critics think Musk’s strange way of hiring could be a risk to national safety.

Bobba is clearly skilled, but his quick jump into such a big job has sparked a loud talk about trust, experience, and how open the government is. As things move forward, the talk about DOGE and its young workers keeps getting louder.
