Mahakumbh 2025: 15,000 Workers Set Guinness Cleaning Record

Mahakumbh 2025 – Mahakumbh, the world’s largest religious and spiritual gathering, has also been transformed into a “Swachh Mahakumbh” (Clean Mahakumbh) under the inspiration of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In line with this vision, several Guinness World Records are being established to promote the importance of cleanliness in this mega event. On Monday, 15,000 sanitation staff swept in unison across four areas of the Mela region, trying to set a historic world record.

The Prayagraj Mela Authority, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, surpassed its own previous record from Kumbh 2019. The event witnessed the presence of Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, Mahakumbh Special Officer Akanksha Rana, and an observation team from Guinness World Records.

The final confirmation of the record will be announced in three days by the Guinness World Records adjudication team, led by Chief Observer Rishi Nath, who arrived from the organization’s London headquarters. The entire observation and verification process is being conducted by Neeraj Prakash & Associates, a Chartered Accountant firm. The number of sanitation workers participating was verified using scan-code wristbands assigned to each worker.

Mahakumbh Sends a Global Message on Cleanliness

In Kumbh 2019, 10,000 sanitation workers had set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous cleaning drive. This year, Mahakumbh 2025 has surpassed that achievement with 15,000 workers participating. Under the guidance of Ganga Sevaduts (Ganga conservation volunteers) and sector magistrates, cleaning operations were carried out in key locations, including:

📍 Helipad Area, Sector-2
📍 Salori Nagvasuki Region
📍 Arail
📍 Jhunsi

At the event, Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani emphasized that this world record from Mahakumbh is a powerful global message on cleanliness. He stated, “This record will inspire people worldwide to embrace cleanliness as a way of life and contribute to a cleaner future.”

10 km Cleaning Drive Marks a Historic Achievement

Speaking at the occasion, Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Urban Development and Energy, A.K. Sharma, hailed Mahakumbh as the world’s largest religious, spiritual, and cultural gathering. He credited sanitation workers as the true heroes behind maintaining cleanliness in the Mela area.

He stated:
“On Monday, 15,000 sanitation workers conducted a cleaning drive across a 10 km stretch, setting a historic milestone. This achievement is a testament to India’s commitment to cleanliness. It is an outstanding example of dedication and teamwork by our sanitation workforce.”

Sharma also urged people to see cleanliness as a lifelong commitment rather than a one-day effort. He concluded by saying: “This record from Mahakumbh inspires us to keep our surroundings clean every day and take collective steps towards a healthier India.”
