Global e-commerce leader Amazon announced on Thursday its ambitious goal of helping Indian businesses reach over $13 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports by the end of 2024. This significant initiative underscores Amazon’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and small businesses in India, enabling them to access international markets through its vast e-commerce platform. Since launching its ‘Amazon Global Selling’ program in 2015, the company has facilitated 150,000 exporters in selling more than 400 million ‘Made in India’ products to customers worldwide. Over the past year, the program’s seller base has expanded by 20 percent.
Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasized the importance of increasing MSME exports for national economic growth. He noted that e-commerce is playing a significant role in this expansion. “E-commerce exports, supported by initiatives like ‘Amazon Global Selling,’ are crucial in giving MSMEs the chance to present their products to a global market,” the minister said.
The program includes sellers from over 200 cities, helping them build global brands and reach hundreds of millions of customers across more than 18 Amazon marketplaces worldwide. Bhupen Wakankar, Director of Global Trade at Amazon India, highlighted the company’s investment in tools and technologies aimed at optimizing sellers’ reach, improving product visibility, and boosting sales. “Amazon is dedicated to enabling $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2025,” he added.
Minister Chaudhary also pointed out the vast potential of entrepreneurs from various districts and small towns across India to engage in e-commerce exports. “With supportive policies and a conducive ecosystem, we can empower these entrepreneurs and establish India as a leading export nation,” he stated.
