Vikas Purohit Appointed CEO of New Business Ventures at BCCL

Vikas Purohit, a seasoned Indian business leader, has been named CEO of New Business Ventures at BCCL, the group holding company of The Times of India. In his role as CEO of New Business Ventures, Purohit will scout for and capitalize on new opportunities, develop entrepreneurial venture ideas, design strategic business plans, and execute them to build scalable and profitable businesses.

A Shining Twenty-Year Career

Purohit’s shining career is over two decades old, and during this period, he has made significant contributions to numerous sectors. He started his career in 2002 as a management trainee with the Aditya Birla Group and got exposed to brand initiatives. His work experience with Tommy Hilfiger and Reliance Brands also gave him experience in retail management, giving him strong fundamentals for his subsequent assignments.

Purohit joined Amazon India in 2012, where he was tasked with launching and operating Amazon Fashion, which immensely added to the fashion quotient of the site for style-conscious consumers. His strategic guidance and leadership were instrumental in establishing Amazon as a leading player in the Indian fashion e-commerce sector.

Leadership at Tata CLiQ and Meta India

Purohit’s career in business began with Tata CLiQ in 2016, where he began as the Chief Operating Officer before assuming the position of the Chief Executive Officer in 2018. As Tata CLiQ grew magnificently during his leadership, it further fortified its grip over the e-commerce space. Tata CLiQ’s tenure witnessed during his rule the fusion of traditional retail know-how and the use of technology that made shopping a seamless experience across channels.

In early 2023, Purohit moved to Meta India as Director and Head of the Global Business Group. As Director and Head of the Global Business Group, he spearheaded initiatives for more than 10 million small businesses in the country, demonstrating his passion for empowering local businesses and fueling digital growth.

Purohit possesses a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore.
